Job Description
The Global Commodity Management team is responsible for Lumentum’s Global direct materials Supplier Base development to ensure the best material cost for the company and continuity of materials supplies. We are looking for ways to improve the business processes and visibilities of material cost roadmap. The GCM Analyst intern role will support the GCM team through supply management projects that provide hands on experience and contribute to the organization. The primary project responsibility will be analyzing the current planning / demand system from Lumentum through our contract manufacturers and into the supply chain and determining ways to identify true causes of demand shifts as well as create solutions to optimize the process.
Responsibilities
The GCM Analyst Intern responsibilities would include but not be limited to the following:
- Executing a comprehensive project evaluating the current demand driven through the supply chain from Lumentum through the contract manufacturers in order to:
- Identify true demand increases driven by Lumentum vs MRP demand increases driven by the CM / EMS
- Determine if there is finished goods level demand increases vs MRP or other factor driven increases that appear as spikes / increases / pull-ins.
- Understand how those increases are created either at Lumentum or at the CM / EMS.
- Identify systematic ways to determine the actual cause of demand spikes especially within lead time.
- Create and implement a plan between LITE and the CM / EMS to mitigate demand spikes, especially those driven by CM MRP / other CM issues, and optimize or smooth the LITE demand spikes.
- Create ways to make upcoming demand spikes visible before they flow through the CM / EMS at the component level to the entire supply base.
- Create a new system for categorizing and determining causes of demand spikes and implement those in the EMS / CM on-going supply management process and documentation in their Demand And Supply Projections.
- Maintain negotiated price and sourcing rules in Agile and in Oracle and ensure data integrity.
- Review PPV data and provide recommendations to GCM and finance for corrective actions.
- Support critical shortage management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Qualified candidates will be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Supply Chain Management, Business or related majors. Students must be returning to school following the internship.
Desired Qualifications
- Studying for a degree in Business with a concentration in supply / sourcing / planning.
- Strong communications, initiative, and teamwork
- Strong experience using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong experience in using other data analytic tools is a plus.
- Independent and time sensitive.
- Work experience in supply, procurement or planning.
