MaineHealth Enterprise Reporting is seeking an innovative and creative Business Intelligence Developer (BID) to help translate business needs into knowledge primarily supporting Behavioral Health. This individual will work closely with healthcare leadership supporting areas that include care progression and throughput, discharge planning, psychosocial barriers, utilization management, and denials management.

This individual will investigate data, analyze use case requirements, provide solution prototypes, develop model reports and data extracts, and collaborate with developers and architects to provide high value solutions.

This is a hybrid position requiring a tech-savvy data expert who can seamlessly transition into the business world. The right candidate must have the ability to understand the clinical, financial, and regulatory nature of the business and be able to translate business questions into reporting and analytic solutions. In addition, they must possess the ability to interact with customers, understand their business needs, and the ability to anticipate customer questions or possible challenges that might occur while developing analytics solutions. This position strives to create analytic solutions, ultimately to support better patient care, more efficient business processes, and financial strength for MaineHealth.

It is essential that this BI Developer position build an understanding of the data structures supporting these areas, as well as knowledge pertaining to the operational aspects of the business. This will enable them to identify and address critical issues. The BI Developer will educate and train staff to use data as an analytical tool, displaying the information in new forms and content for the purpose of analysis and exploration. They will work with program staff to determine service requirements, priorities, and define key performance indicators (KPI) and to establish measurement based treatment outcome tools. This individual will be responsible for facilitating information gathering of assigned projects and tasks, and expected to present findings to all levels of management. They will conduct analysis of functional service processes and functional service requirements. They must work well within a team environment.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of business intelligence developer or related technical experience
  • Highly organized with an excellent attention to detail
  • Healthcare experience preferred, experience working with treatment data preferred
  • Knowledge of hospital/ambulatory patient flow and Care Management concepts preferred
  • Epic Cogito and Clarity Data Model Certifications or Proficiencies preferred or successful completion required within 2-4 months upon hire
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of MS-SQL
  • Experience working with Business Intelligence software programs required (examples include: SAP BI Suite, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or IBM Cognos)
  • Experience with analytic programming languages such as SQL, R, DAX, or Python desired
  • Strong understanding of relational database structure preferred
  • Working knowledge of Star and Snowflake schemas
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
  • Will participate in On-Call Support rotation for daytime and off hours after initial training period
  • Ability to lead multiple projects with multiple departments across the MH System
  • Qualifications pertinent to the CCBHC:
  • Works with staff to understand business needs, workflow processes, and source systems that need to be considered in the deliverable design and technical approach for producing the end product.
  • Manages expectations by educating staff about data design, presentation/visualization options, and relevant report creation processes
  • Facilitates and leads discussions to identify clear goals and expected outcomes of requests.
  • Advises users and information Services teams on data & data best practices.
  • Works collaboratively with Enterprise Data Management teams and other departments to continuously improve the quality of data available for analysis score : N/A

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Management or specialized training/certification in business analytics (Or equivalent work experience)
  • License/Certifications : N/A
  • Experience : 3+ years of business intelligence developer or related technical experience; 3+ years of experience with a programming language (MS-SQL preferred); Must complete mandatory training requirements within 2-4 months of hire/start date; Healthcare experience preferred
  • Meet all training requirements outlined in the ‘Epic Environment and Support Security Standards’ in order to gain access to appropriate Epic environments Experience working with Business Intelligence software programs desirable (examples include: SAP BI Suite, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, IBM Cognos, QlikView, or QlikSense)
  • Demonstrated experience in producing technical documentation
  • Demonstrated experience in report distribution, build and testing strategies

  • Strong business acumen Proven ability to utilize knowledge of computer systems and understand complex data structures to develop analytics solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
