The Data Engineer will be responsible for developing, optimizing, supporting, and improving the data architecture and platform for business-critical data analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of data engineering strategy, data architecture, data preparation, data cleansing, data transformation and data integration.
- Responsible for activities such as managing storage and processing of internal and external data sources, software verification and code development, managing inputs and requirements from data scientists, data privacy and security, cleansing datasets, and managing data tools.
- Interact with external partners to define new datasets for analytics.
- Support a regulated function of the department, comprehend and perform validation efforts in accordance with business and legal requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of data engineering across the enterprise by researching industry best practices for analytics.
- Collaborate with data scientists to determine the best data to address a research question and optimize data delivery to enable easy interpretation of the data.
Desired skills
- Experience in data analysis and empathy for data analysts as the end user
- Experience in database design and architecture principles and strong SQL abilities
- Understanding of Data warehousing/Data Modeling/Data Lake
- Ability to make decisions and use good judgment
- Excellent communication, articulation, and domain understanding aptitude
- Experience in a health care/life sciences research environment a plus
- Experience working with medical datasets a plus, including Medicare or commercial insurance claims data, electronic health record (EHR) data, or clinical study data
Required experience/qualifications
- Degree in computer science or related fields. A plus: Master’s degree in computer science or engineering and Health sciences, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 5+ years of work experience
- Knowledge of any cloud platforms like AWS/GCP/Azure, experience working with Azure, Databricks and Spark is desirable
- Experience in SQL, Python and object-oriented programming is a must, including common Python libraries such as pandas
- Code management tool (ex. Git, GitHub, bitbucket) experience and some exposure to big data
