The Director, Data Services will provide thought leadership, strategic planning, and governance for ARC’s data platforms and products. Create and maintain a 3-year vision and plan for developing a world-class data engineering practice. Lead ARC’s Data Governance practice and provide guidance for ARC teams in data storage, security, availability and recovery. Lead and partner effectively in a matrixed organization to deliver services and products to customers. Ensure individual product team needs are met by providing resources that are highly skilled and well trained.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Maintain an organizationally aligned 3-yr strategic roadmap in support of functional business requirements across all data domains. Deliver a strategic vision that algins the Data Services program to ensure the Data Engineers, Data Reliability Engineers, and Data Architects stay aligned and deliver clear business value. Develop and maintain a customer-focused, nimble, and accountable department that consistently defines and manages ARC’s data infrastructure. This includes standards for data storage, retention, security, scalability, and availability.
  • Remain abreast of technology developments and proactively align the future state goals with strategic business goals. Responsible for preparing content, which will inform and educate the ARC Executive team consistently and on occasion the ARC BOD on business value of future data techniques and methodologies.
  • Closely collaborate with business partners, vendors and industry consultants that provide solutions and support across all data domains. Collaborate with other members of Business Technology to align the vision for using technology to meet ARC’s business requirements.
  • Lead the Data Governanace Steering Committee and Community of Practice. Partner with audit, risk, and legal teams to understand and fulfill business objectives regarding data usage policies, privacy, and security.
  • Develop and coach high performing teams to drive business value.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • 8-10+ years of experience developing large-scale data processing platforms, techniques, and technologies driven by business requirements
  • 8-10+ years managing development teams building and delivering solutions to complex data processing problems
  • 5+ years of experience managing medium to large scale projects in a data leadership capacity
  • Strong software development background, preferably in an agile or scrum delivery model, with experience in Cloud Based Solutions/ Technologies (AWS, Google, Azure). AWS developer environment including, but not limited to, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, Glue, DynamoDB, S3, Cloudwatch;
  • Implementation of modern domain driven design patterns, including micro-services and containers, disposable, reactive, stateless and distributed patterns; and Knowledge and experience with DevOps practices, continuous delivery, and infrastructure as code
  • Deep Knowledge and experience with distributed systems concepts and methodologies, data lakes, data warehouses, etc.
  • Experience with one or more Cloud BI Technologies (such as Tableau, Qlik, Looker)
  • Experience cloud native design patterns and domain driven designs
  • Experience with Data Governance programs
  • Proven track record working across large cross-functional teams
  • Experience in matrix management and strong communication skills
