  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 3+ years industry experience
  • Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Ruby, Java, etc)
  • Data Warehousing Experience with Oracle, Redshift, PostgreSQL, etc.
  • Query performance tuning skills

Job summary
How can we build talent pipelines to support Amazonโ€™s growth? What is important for talent to be successful at Amazon? How can we better predict talent movement (promotions, transfers, attrition) and quantitatively identify the root causes? When does internal movement make the biggest impact on Amazon talent? These are among the most important questions at Amazon today.

As a Data Engineer on the Talent Products Team you will:

  • Collaborate with a team of Economists, Applied/Research Scientists, Software Development Engineers, and UX designers in answering these questions and developing products for use by internal operations leaders to manage these insights at scale.
  • Shape the strategic direction and inform talent decisions at the highest levels of Worldwide Operations, helping us to become the worldโ€™s most scientific and technically proficient Human Resource organization.
  • Assist in the design, creation, management, and business use of large datasets.
  • Work with business analysts and engineers to determine how best to design the data warehouse for reporting and analytics.
  • Design and implement scalable ETL processes in the data warehouse platform to support the rapidly growing and dynamic business demand for data, and use it to deliver the data as service which will have an immediate influence on day-to-day decision making.
  • Develop and tune SQL to provide optimized solutions to the business.

#LTM

  • Industry experience as a Data Engineer or related specialty (e.g., Software Engineer, Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Scientist) with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets.
  • Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
  • Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing datasets from multiple sources
  • Experience leading large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects, including using AWS technologies โ€“ Redshift, S3, EC2, etc.
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentor other engineers for the best practices on the data engineering space
  • Linux/UNIX.
  • Experience with AWS
