A day in the life
Our team is focused on building a personalized, curated, and seamless digital discovery experience. We want to help our customers discover up-and-coming subscriptions, bundles, digital products, and enable our marketing teams in digital businesses to leverage the personalization capability to delight their customers. We build systems that are distributed on a large scale, spanning our shopping apps, web, and Echo devices, powered by Alexa to support our customer base.
We optimize presentation of digital content and products which aides the shopping mission of the customer, by using Confidence Score for a customer to use our digital offering, or building a strongly consistent cached data store which scales for several hundred thousand transactions per second for discovering digital rewards of our customers, or building solutions to infer the propensity for our customer to buy a book because they watched a movie, or building cross-digital personalization strategies based on item-to-item collaborative filtering, or working closely and feeling inspired from Sr. SDEs and Principal Engineers in Machine Learning and foundational technologies at Amazon – meet the rapidly growing Digital Discovery team. We are building cross-digital ML powered personalized recommendation of digital products and promotions for our customers. Our solutions need to meet the strict latency, scale and availability requirements on the high trafficked Amazon.com homepage. Our solutions are entirely built in native AWS. We are building digital discovery solutions which will fundamentally change how digital businesses think about digital marketing and discovery (making it hands-of-the-wheel).

Job responsibilities
You’re an experienced machine learning engineer looking for a career where you’ll be able to have impact on millions of customers. You want to work on projects that require innovative and creative thinking, deep technical problem solving, and the opportunity to lead and mentor other engineers. You challenge yourself and others to constantly come up with better solutions. You’re a thought leader – but you don’t just know how to solve the problem – you prove it by building the solution. You have a high bar for coding excellence and a passion for design and architecture.
• Experience developing complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers • Experience with AWS services at high scale • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs and product strategy • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing and operations • Experience with critical (24×7), high throughput, multi-threaded systems • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior software engineers in all aspects of their engineering skill-sets. • Passion for digital products and customer experiences
