Amazon Physical Retail Stores is a new kind of store with no lines and no checkout. You simply use the Amazon app to enter the store, take what you want from our selection of fresh, delicious meals and grocery essentials, and go. Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by our Just Walk Out Technology. It automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When you’re done shopping, you just leave the store. Shortly after, we’ll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt. Check it out at amazon.com/go. Designed and custom-built by Amazonians, our technology uses computer vision, sensor fusion, and advanced machine learning. Innovation is part of our DNA. We’re looking for people who want to join an ambitious team that continues to push the state of the art in computer vision, machine learning, distributed systems and hardware design. Additionally, our team supports other Amazon Physical Retail locations including Amazon Fresh, Bookstores, 4-Star, Go, Popup, Kiosks, as well as renovations and labs supporting these formats.
In this role you’ll have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a game-changing initiative. You’ll be working on challenging problems that need creative solutions. You should be comfortable building process, challenging assumptions, and thinking of creative ways to tackle challenges. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and cooperate in a highly collaborative environment that’s more startup than big company. Our engineers take on problems spanning various domains, including network engineering, hardware design, process optimization, process documentation and work standardization.

You will play an active role in implementing business and functional deliverables in partnership with other technology leaders within the team.
You will help solve a variety of technical challenges and mentor other engineers. You will work with peers to consistently raise the bar by reducing cost, complexity, and ambiguity out of the new store launch process. Additionally, you will play an active role in defining the installation processes for our technologies in partnership with other technical teams within the organization. You will support a variety of business initiatives in different regions. You will work on challenging situations daily and given the size of this initiative, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. Be prepared to develop a solution and then scale it to meet the business needs. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that may have never existed.
