We’re looking for a talented and experienced Sr. Data Engineer to join a new engineering team and collaborate with product managers, designers, and software engineers to design, and develop the data models and data systems that drive innovative automotive-shopping experiences for our customers.
Key job responsibilities
The Automotive Discovery team is looking for a Sr. Data Engineer to lead modeling, design and implementation efforts for complex data sets, and to understand the needs of our customers and establish tools and practices that support data-driven decision-making. Your work will directly impact the decisions and strategy of our product by gathering customer needs and insights, and mining large and diverse data sets from across Amazon to understand our customer behavior and usage of our features.
As successful candidate, you are a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big and be creative (while still paying careful attention to detail). You are skilled in data modeling, database design, comfortable dealing with large and complex data sets, and have experience building self-service dashboards and using visualization tools. You are analytical and possess crisp communication skills that facilitate your work with product managers and business development teams to define key business questions and build data sets and models that answer them.
A day in the life
This role is cross-functional — you will work closely product management, engineering, UX design, and leadership. You should be comfortable working in a dynamic, start-up environment, and seek data-driven decision-making.
About the team
This role is one of the first on a newly formed team with a vision to create innovative automotive discovery and shopping experiences on Amazon, providing customers better convenience and more selection. We’re collaborating with other experienced teams at Amazon to define the future of how customers research and shop for cars online.

  • Masters in computer science, mathamatics, statistics, economics or other qualitative fields
  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, BI Engineer, Business/Financial Analyst or Systems Analyst in a company with large, complex data sources.
  • Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
  • Experience working with AWS big data technologies (EMR, Redshift, S3, Neptune, etc.)
  • Demonstrated strength in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
  • Proven success in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices on data engineering
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
