Primary Role
The Principal Data Engineer is a key resource within the Data Analytics and Data Management organization. This individual is part of a team responsible for all data services and analytics that underpin the enterprise data platform which, supports custom applications, dashboards, and advanced analytics. In addition to administrating the core data services, the Principal Data Engineer will be responsible for developing and supporting new workflows and functionalities. The Principal Data Engineer will support our application developers, business users, data scientists, and other key stakeholders on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery consistent throughout ongoing projects. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. The Principal Data Engineer will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data services architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for our key stakeholders. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives. The right candidate will have 10+ years of experience in the data space along with a mix of leadership skills and strong hands-on technical skills.Key Accountabilities

- Over 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering and/or Business Analytics
- Architect, design, develop, and maintain scalable data platforms, system integrations, data pipelines, data models & API integrations to support evolving business strategy and analytics infrastructure using big data and cloud technologies
- Establish and maintain the team’s methodology to conform and curate data, benchmarking against industry standards. Ensure that data are optimally standardized and analysis ready.
- Assist in team development while holding teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work; leveraging organizational resources to improve capacity for project work; and mentoring and developing team members.
- Implement and influence business and IT vision and roadmaps for data solutions across the aligned functional domains.
- In-depth experience with databases, data lakes and advanced knowledge in SQL, Python, Scala and PySpark
- Experience with AWS services such as S3, EMR, EC2, Data Pipelines, Lambda, MSK, Glue, Athena, RDS, and Redshift preferred
- Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Quicksight preferred
- Knowledge of NiFi and Postgres is a plus.
- Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving ability
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills for a wide variety of audiences
- Intellectually curious and willing to learn.
- Knowledge of agile engineering practices, development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and tools (Jira, Slack, VersionOne).
- Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and communicate work, as well as status of work.Experience/Education
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or equivalent with programming experience
- 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering and/or Business Analytics using Data Lake and Cloud EnvironmentsCertifications & Licenses
