Function Description:
American Express has embarked on an exciting transformation driven by an energetic team of high performers. This group works with technology and business partners across Procure to pay business functions/processes to ensure solution delivery for both internal and external stakeholders.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Develop and deploy cutting-edge chatbot capabilities that provide great customer experiences over chat
- Perform technical aspects of software development for assigned applications including design, developing prototypes, and coding assignments
- Architect, code & test backend services to support machine learning training, prediction and annotation
- Develop new and improve existing conversational flows in chatbot
- Integrate chatbots with other applications and web services and make them easily configurable
- Review and identify areas of improvement for successful responses of chatbot
- Develop robust feedback loops to track end-user experience and emerging needs
- Apply industry-standard architecture and engineering principles for chatbots, and develop suite of best practices for the whole team around coding guidelines, architectural design principles, automated testing, scalability, etc.
- Work with Product Owners and Cross Functional Teams to define and track the data needed for comprehensive metrics to allow measurement of how well applications are performing
- Collaborate with Knowledge Management teams for updating of the corpus of Database of answers based on user experience feedback & reports
- Function as a leader on an agile team by contributing to software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation)
- Lead code reviews and automated testing
- Debug software components and identify code defects for remediation
- Leads the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments
- Empower teams to automate deployments in test or production environments
- Takes accountability for the success of the team achieving their goals
- Drives the team’s strategy and prioritizes initiatives
- Influence team members by challenging status quo, demonstrating risk taking, and implementing creative ideas

- 9+ years of experience in software engineering in architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
- Strong experience in developing software in different programming languages, and demonstrated ability to quickly learn new languages, including but not limited to Java, Python
- Well versed in building and deploying multiple chatbot/Virtual Assistant applications using NLP and Machine Learning, preferably across both voice and chat
- Experience in Rasa is a must
- Good knowledge of at least one machine learning framework (Tensorflow, Pytorch, Huggingface, Keras) will be a big plus
- Strong experience in developing applications using Event Streaming Architecture and Micro Services
- Experience in building ontologies for knowledge discovery and creating knowledge graph based question answering applications will be a plus
- Experience with DevOps, reliability engineering, and platform monitoring
- Well versed in AGILE methodologies and Program Management methods
- Bachelor’s degree with a preference for Computer Science
