The Data Management and Governance Oversight team within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for ensuring that American Express’s most critical data and supporting processes can be trusted for their intended purposes, meet regulatory requirements, and support the development & execution of effective risk management practices. The incumbent will assess, challenge, and monitor the enterprise data governance program and evaluate the effectiveness of data management practices and controls within critical data processes.
This role will lead/partner with a team of professionals to assess, challenge and monitor the effectiveness of critical data management practices and controls within American Express.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring and continued enhancement of the data governance oversight framework, including development of guidance and procedural documentation.
- Development of metrics to continuously monitor and oversee the data governance program and data management practices.
- Conduct independent reviews of implemented data governance programs and in-scope critical data elements/processes.
- Assess data management practices on critical data processes to drive insights and recommendations for first line teams.
- Evaluate evolving regulatory requirements and expectations around data management to assess and challenge scope of enterprise data management strategy.
- Manage findings to closure and escalate issues in accordance with the data management and governance oversight program.
Academic Background
- Bachelor/Advanced degree in data science, computer science, information technology, information management or statistics from premium institutes
Functional Skills/Capabilities
- Knowledge of Amex SORs for any AMEX Business Unit, experience in product development & solution designing
- Strong problem-solving, excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to build & leverage relationships and influence broadly across various BUs/levels
- Results driven with strong project management skills and ability to work on multiple priorities
- Preferred: Expertise in end-to-end automation capabilities
- Understanding of key Governance & Compliance practices will be added advantage
Technical Skills/Capabilities
- Data manipulation with large & complex dataset
- Data management & capabilities, including analyzing structured and unstructured data.
- Basic statistical techniques and algorithms
- Machine Learning
Knowledge of Platforms
- SQL, Excel is a must with experience in python/ PySpark is added advantage
- Knowledge of Big Data platforms – Cornerstone, Hadoop, Hive, MapReduce (good to have)
- Knowledge of atleast one Governance Tools – Collibra, Manta, PKware
