Data Engineer Chapter Lead – Australia Data 4.1
Role Location – RMZ Ecoworld, Bangalore

At ANZ our purpose is to shape a world where people and communities thrive and to achieve this, we need a talented Data Engineer Chapter Lead to join our Australia Data tribe. Australia Data designs and manages business/technology capabilities which enable data science, general analytics, reporting and data asset development. Our clients are data workers, marketers, product managers, executives and operational staff across the entire Australian bank.
As a Data Engineer Chapter Lead, you are responsible for building world class capability in your chapter. You’ll be a promoter and ambassador of the new culture and ways of working. You will bring domain knowledge or deep expertise on a specific topic and develop this expertise and T-shaped capability in your chapter members.
You will work as a Squad Member in your domain of expertise, helping to advance the work and using your experience to maximize Squad performance. You will also be committed to maintaining and developing your own expertise and knowledge to ensure that you and your Chapter members bring the latest thinking to your roles.
This role is responsible for nurturing, developing an engineering capability across the tribe, building and fostering a strong data driven culture and ensuring knowledge sharing, learning / training / up-skilling, career development, and standards / governance / QA are embraced and adopted.
What will your day look like
Among your responsibilities, you will:
Understand the Australia Retail & Commercial division strategy and collaborate with the leadership team to shape & define engineering practices that deliver against the strategy, inclusive of cloud
Continuously develop Chapter expertise and Maintain best-in-class Chapter expertise and resources in order to deliver the right knowledge and skills to Squad
Maintaining your own technical knowledge through learning and continuous improvement
Overseeing, providing feedback, and developing Chapter members to help improve domain knowledge and better serve the Squads in which they work
Discussing Chapter development progress and opportunities with India Campus Lead and Product Area Lead
Share knowledge and expertise within and outside of the Chapter
Ensuring the “how” of the work performed by Chapter members is aligned with established technical roadmaps and guardrails to drive strategy
Actively sharing knowledge and expertise across the wider federated data community with other Chapters
Engaging Product Owners, DALs, Product Area Lead, and India Campus Lead to allocate Chapter members and ensure Squads have proper technical resourcing and functional expertise
Identifying expertise and resource gaps and training or hiring the talent needed to address them
Advancing the work of the Squad based on items in the backlog and priorities set by the Product Owner
Sharing expertise with Squad members and working cross-functionally to advance the work of the Squad
Enable the organization’s new way of working and Modelling behaviors to support the organization’s
Actively creating and maintaining a positive culture within the Chapter based on Agile leadership behaviours
Provide Technical subject matter of expertise and Deep platform/product knowledge to define architectural standards and technology roadmaps that meet business needs
Understanding of the technology stack in depth, including applications within and outside the Tribe
Consult across business and technology with a view of compliance impacts
Supporting Product Owners, India Campus and Product Area Leads to break down customer problems and opportunities into solution hypotheses and/or deliverable pieces of work for the squad
Show thought leadership in creating reliable distributed data pipelines that allow self-service
Coach and develop chapter members, building a deep level of business understanding and technical skill
What will you bring?
Mandatory Skills
Significant experience working in a Senior Data Engineering role with a desire to remain ‘hands on’ – this role require individual to be 50% hands-on as Senior Data Engineer and remaining 50% on People Management responsibilities.
Minimum 12+ years hands-on experience required on Teradata, and its utilities
Experience working on this technology stack i.e. – Teradata, Mainframe DB2, MS Access, SAS, Oracle, SQL Server etc, with a variety of tools and technology involving – Alex, Bamboo, BitBucket, Control M, Erwin, KNIME, Python, QlikSense, SSIS, Tablaeu, Unica, Java, Kafka, IBM datastage, Spark, Openshift, Airflow, Teradata Utilities to name a few.
Background in data pipelining, distributed data processing, software engineering components and data modelling concepts
Professional experience in building robust data pipelines using ETL tools
Work as a Squad Member in your domain of expertise, helping to advance the work and using your experience to maximize Squad performance.
Previous experience of working with products that have regular releases through automated CI / CD processes
Previous experience of Scaled Agile practices and ways of working, including the use of tools such as Jira, Confluence etc
Strong people leadership skills to build and grow a high performing team
High competence in stakeholder management and influencing
Preferred Skills
Deep knowledge of cloud-based solutions, with GCP experience preferred
Demonstrable experience with cloud tech
Experience developing and shaping roadmaps to deliver a business strategy
Understanding of version controlling tools like Github, SVN etc.
