Job Description:
Apex is partnering with a AAA Racing Game Studio in Redmond, WA and hiring for a Data Analyst. This studio is releasing a game in Spring 2023 and needs an Analyst to join the Data Science team and help with dashboard and analysis work pertaining to Player Behavior and Game Features.
This role can work 100% remote and they are open to any time zone. They don’t have a lot of meetings to attend so they wont need to flex too much in their hours for meetings.
Typical Day in the Role
They need them to knock out a lot of reporting. They will work a lot with the more engineering focused member of the team. They don’t need someone with data science capabilities. This person will be doing some dashboard work with some analysis work.
Design and monitor KPIs to identify developing trends across the product
Query and transform data from large datasets to produce insights and inform decisions
Build Power BI dashboards to enable a self-service environment
Develop and write in-depth product analysis on player behavior and game features
Perform quality assurance on reports to ensure accuracy and consistency
What makes this role interesting?
This analyst will sit in a team of Data Scientists. There is some potential to expand into that and start with python for some project opportunities (would be a nice stretch). They will also be working on this team through the launch of a game which will be a really exciting time to be at the studio. That kind of experience will be really good to add to their resume they will see the requests that come through right after the game launches and experience things they wouldn’t normally. They have a lot of people on the team with great experience and the person they will work most with has a lot of gaming industry experience within data where they could ideally form a strong relationship and mentorship with team members.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, etc. (or equivalent experience)
Exceptional math, problem solving, and analytical skills
3+ years professional experience in an analytical role
Proficiency in extracting, transforming, and analyzing large data sets using SQL or KQL
Experience in designing and developing visualization solutions using Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent enterprise data visualization software
Preferred
Experience with Azure Synapse
Familiarity with games or the gaming industry
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Degrees or certifications required:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, etc. preferred but not a hard requirement
Disqualifiers: Want someone who will stick it out through the whole assignment so they should have some good tenure in previous roles. Must be able to show that they are experienced in SQL and show that in a technical assessment. They will work in Kusto (KQL) mostly so they should know enough about SQL to be able to write 150-200 line queries within it so they need to be confident in their skills. Should be comfortable building and updating dashboards in PowerBI.
Best vs. average: A PowerBI and Azure Syanpse expert would be more than ideal for the role. Gaming experience is a big plus if they don’t have gaming experience they should have knowledge of games and enjoy the gaming world (player)The team is game play analytics specifically so they need to be able to think about the data in the right way. Having strong communication skills (written and verbal) to put together papers on the analysis they are performing.
Performance indicators: quality of work and the quality of their communication. They will also take a look at estimating deadlines to ensure they can meet them (won’t have strict deadlines for the most part).
