Apple’s AI/ML residency is a year-long program inviting experts in various fields to apply their own domain expertise to innovate and build revolutionary machine learning and AI-based products and experiences. As AI-based solutions spread across disciplines, the need for domain experts to understand machine learning and apply their expertise in ML setting grows. Residents will have the opportunity to attend machine learning and AI courses, learn from an Apple mentor closely involved in their program, collaborate with fellow residents, gain hands-on experience working on high-impact projects, publish in premier academic conferences, and partner with Apple teams across hardware, software, and services.
Key Qualifications
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Python, Objective-C, C++, Swift, and/or R. Candidates should have experience completing a moderate-sized software project
- Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with others
- Ideal candidates will also have academic, research, or industry experience in one of the following: natural language processing, information retrieval/search, data mining. Thesis, dissertation, capstone project, internship, co-op, and/or industry experience in these fields all qualify
Description
The Answers & Web Ranking team builds data pipelines, features, models, and evaluations for answers and web search ranking seen in Siri, Spotlight, and Safari. We answer domain questions on the web, such as [why are barns red?], run query understanding to answer structured questions such as [what is the weight of the Eiffel tower?] from the Apple Knowledge Graph, and rank the web. Residents who join will get exposure to state-of-the-art Machine Learning along with robust engineering challenges. NOTE: Seattle is the preferred location for this particular role, but we are also open to having this resident in Cupertino.
Education & Experience
Graduate degree in a STEM field or equivalent industry experience in software engineering
