Are you passionate about analyzing data patterns for Apple services like App Store or Apple Music, or excited about shaping the products like Apple TV or Apple Podcasts? As part of Apple Media Product (AMP) organization, you will be a product expert and analyze a diverse portfolio of machine learning models used in the service products globally. The team represents the user’s perspective as they vet new features being introduced to AMP. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include innovating ideas and methods to help improve AMP search and recommendation features and reporting detailed issues to leadership, engineering, and product teams to ensure we deliver amazing product experiences to our customers.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+years of experience working with customer-facing services and products that are powered by machine-learned models and have an understanding of natural language or speech-enabled products
  • Experience with model evaluation (IR system evaluation, recommender system evaluation)
  • Research experience, ideally published, in regards to evaluation methodologies, and evaluation metrics (NDCG, MRR, recall, precision, F-score, Precision@k)
  • Expertise in statistical modeling, sampling methods, multivariate analysis, survey designs, and causal inference.
  • Proven experience with data pipeline and data warehouse. Strong data mining skills with SQ and programming skills in Spark, Python, or similar languages
  • Deep understanding of the software development for machine-learned products and services and how analytics and human evaluation data can help improve those products
  • A demonstrated passion for data analysis, data-informed product innovation, building and shaping data culture
  • You use good judgment balancing art and science when visually presenting information (e.g. Tableau, Superset, ggplot, D3).
  • Capable of driving projects of varying sizes and scopes—some will take months and some weeks—and you will need to know when to dive deep
  • Ability to handle complex relationships across multiple functions and establish strong partnerships. Outstanding communication and presentation skills, written and verbal, to all levels of an organization
  • Good product sense, with the ability to translate between product goals, business goals, and technical requirements for data analytics
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with proven creative and critical thinking capabilities
  • Highly developed capability to, directly and indirectly, lead large teams for success

Description

Lead the product vision and project execution for offline evaluations of Apple media products (App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Books, Apple Podcasts) Partner with product teams to design ML model evaluation frameworks, define evaluation KPIs (NDCG, MRR, Precision@k, etc.), and build data pipelines and dashboards to monitor the performance of our AMP products. Define the instrumentation required for yielding sufficient data for offline evaluation Evaluate and improve the quality of critical metrics for key products by analyzing customer problems. Empower others to understand and leverage data for decision making Ensure the measurement of new features is crafted and instrumented in every release cycle. Productize dashboards that help product teams to improve Search & Recommendations every day Transform the evaluation process and improve operational efficiency with data intelligence and machine learning Work with leadership to build a strategy that allows us to use our data to create automatic feedback loops that improve the AMP products.

Education & Experience

MS/Ph.D. in a quantitative field with emphasis in Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, and Applied Math. 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
