The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) at Arizona State University is currently seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst to join our data team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly innovative person to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment supporting the data analysis needs of a college of over 30,000 students. In support of the Dean’s Office, Academic and Student Affairs, and units throughout FSE, the Business Intelligence Analyst utilizes BI tools to provide data and reports, and perform complex analysis for decision-making, strategic planning, and process improvement. Working under the direction of the Principal Planning Analyst, carries out the mission of the data team, supporting business users, designing business intelligence solutions and data dashboards, and liaising with the BI community.

Essential Duties
- Utilizes data warehouse and university Business Intelligence (BI) tools (Analytics websites, Alteryx, Report Builder, Tableau, DBeaver, Hyperion, etc.) to develop queries, analysis, and reports as directed
- Works with student, financial, human resources, research, and other data from a variety of sources, including ASU’s data warehouse
- Serves as subject matter expert in research and human resources data
- Responds to data requests by requirement gathering, evaluating available resources, developing research methodologies, gathering data, using appropriate statistical techniques, and recommends existing or new solutions
- Writes and modifies SQL queries for Amazon Redshift and PostgreSQL
- Assists with preparation of specifications, development, quality assurance, and deployment of new business intelligence technology
- Develops user-friendly dashboards and reports to be used for decision making and planning by various stakeholders throughout FSE
- Identifies areas for improvement, seeks to automate and make processes more efficient
- Communicates with stakeholders to understand project requirements; prepares, and delivers presentations; drafts technical reports; documents requirements and improves existing documentation; translates complex, technical subjects to a variety of audiences
- Performs multiple ad hoc requests and annual projects both independently and within a team environment; takes a leadership role in managing projects and achieving results
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a business, information technology or closely related field and two (2) years’ experience in data modeling or database design using SQL or similar language, BI tool use and administration as well as user training/documentation development experience OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

- Evidence of effective quantitative, analytic, and problem-solving skills mixed with curiosity and attention to detail
- Knowledge of higher education administrative systems and related business practices
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft products, tools, and methods
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of developing queries for reporting and data analysis
- Knowledge of human resources and research data in a higher education context
- Ability to analyze complicated problems
- Experience working effectively in an environment requiring balancing multiple competing deadlines and priorities and in collaboration with a variety of individuals
- Experience in building queries and reports with Alteryx, Report Builder, Tableau, DBeaver, and/or Power Query
- Experience writing efficiently running SQL
- Ability to clearly explain concrete processes and abstract concepts orally and in writing, and including graphic presentation of data
- Experience analyzing and interpreting data for forecasting, planning, and process improvement
- Ability to download, merge, manipulate, analyze, and report on large amounts of complex data
- Functional or technical experience with higher education and ERP systems, including PeopleSoft, Workday, and/or Salesforce
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
- Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
