OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

This role will be joining our founding team at Bain CX helping to establish and grow this exciting new venture.

This role is best suited for someone looking to build exciting and cutting-edge digital products from scratch, where they’ll be able to have immediate impact innovating in the applied data space to companies across the world. This person will join a small, but very fast growing and innovative start-up team at the brink of delivering transformational customer experience solutions.

The Manager, Data Science will own the design and build of multiple scale data solutions for clients in various industries and oversee a growing team of data scientists to deliver an ambitious and innovative product roadmap supporting CX insights and solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide in-house data science services to the Bain CX team in order to build advanced analytics products and solutions that can be taken to the client
  • Work across Bain verticals to assess client demands and suggest data science methods that provide practical, value-added analytics solutions for clients
  • Design, develop and implement innovative analytics solutions to a wide scale of problems such as targeting and acquiring customers, segmenting customer, identifying customer lifetime value, predicting customer sentiment and CX scores, profit and price analyses, fraud detection, etc.
  • Develop, prototype and test machine-learning algorithms on data sets that can range from a few data points to big data transactional volumes
  • Apply knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, and data modelling to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions and make valuable discoveries
  • Align data and analytics outputs to meet business objectives
  • Clearly define business success criteria and target KPIs that the analytics solution can help achieve
  • Apply techniques including regression models, decision trees, random forests, gradient boosting, support vector machines, clustering and NLP/topic models. Able to identify appropriate variables to design the modelling approach, develop and validate the model
  • Drive exploratory data analysis from high-dimensional data sets. Execute data wrangling on various sources of structured or unstructured data. Perform necessary feature engineering techniques
  • Develop and/or implement tools for data acquisition, extraction, transformation, management, and manipulation of large and complex data sets
  • Apply data prep and deploying analytics models on Python, R and SQL
  • Leverage cloud computing infrastructures, big data platforms and relational database environments
  • Where appropriate, train other team members to support the use of data analytics tools and to expand the use of machine learning within Bain

REQUIREMENTS

  • 6+ years’ experience in predictive modelling, machine learning, statistical modeling, large scale data acquisition, transformation, and cleaning, both structured and unstructured data
  • Domain expertise in machine learning and statistical modelling such as predictive modelling, churn analysis, time series forecasting, computer vision, text mining, recommender systems, market basket analysis, segmentation, graph analytics, natural language processing and text analytics, etc.
  • Comfortable working with large, complex data sets from varying sources (e.g., transactional & enterprise data, unfiltered data sets, internet/public data or data science research)
  • Proficiency with data wrangling, visualization and modeling in either R or Python is required
  • Experience with developing prototypes, actual models deployed in production or software development is a plus
  • Experience with tools in the distributed computing, GPU, cloud platforms and Big Data domains is a plus (e.g. HPC, GCP, AWS, MS Azure, Hadoop, Spark)
  • Ability to bridge business context with technical details and explain and discuss mathematical and machine learning technicalities to a business audience
  • Strong team and business communication skills – can walk through approach with technical clients or explain tricky concepts to non-technical people
  • Industry experience in retail banking, consumer products, financial services, TMT (tech-media-telco) is preferred but not required
  • Experience with managing a team or mentoring juniors. Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and with multi-office/region teams. Agile way of working
  • Must thrive in a fast paced yet sometimes ambiguous environment and be able to work independently
  • Occasional travel pending on business needs
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Data Science, Market Research or related field. Masters or PhD degree would be a plus
