Intoduction:
The Procurement and Corporate Real Estate Function is in the early stages of an exciting journey to bring together data from multiple disparate (often external Cloud-based) sources onto a consolidated platform. The objective is to build a Data Hub asset that can be used to feed insightful Management Information reports (visualised using tools such as QlikSense and Tableau), but also to supply other systems with trusted and reliable data.
What will you be doing?
- Working as an integral part of a collaborative global team across the UK and India, as a hands-on Senior Ab>Initio Developer, you will play a key role providing technically sound solutions for the ingestion, transformation and extraction of Enterprise Data, including complex Ab>Initio ETL design, data storage strategies, data access, testing and security
- You will ensure data is ingested onto the Barclays Enterprise Data Platform in a sustainable, scalable, pragmatic and re-usable way and in accordance with Data Governance and Coding Standards.
- You will understand the Agile development methodology and be confident practicing this approach in your day to day delivery.
- You will work collaboratively with the data modellers and actively contribute to the overall data model design
- Undertaking proactive knowledge transfer to other team members, you will strive to continuously improve ways of working and leverage the latest features and capabilities of the platform and tools to the benefit of the overall solution.
- You will be responsible for creating Standards and Guidelines for all Ab>Initio development within the team to ensure a consistent, best-practice approach
- A motivated self-starter – you are able to work well without supervision, both individually and as part of the team.
- You are driven by a desire to delight the customer, delivering solutions that are fit for purpose and to an agreed schedule
- Minimum 5 to 6 years’ experience as AbInitio ETL tool on Hadoop platform
What we’re looking for:
- Proficient with ‘hands-on’ development experience of Ab>Initio, with extensive experience of managing Extract, Transform and Load in the context of the Hadoop platform framework, Data Modelling and Data Profiling using MetaData Hub
- Understanding of Big Data Technologies such as Cloudera, Hadoop, Spark, Hive and Impala. Expert in Data Lake and Data Warehousing concepts.
- Able to design effective, re-usable, components to improve development productivity
- Strong interpersonal skills – exemplary team player with natural initiative and ability to mentor junior members of the team
Skills that will help you in the role:
- Engineering Graduate or MCA (or equivalent degree/experience)
- Experience of Linux/Unix Shell scripting, DBMS and SQL
- Excellent problem solving skills and able to provide innovative solutions to technical problems
- Understanding of the capabilities of Alteryx, Tableau and/or QlikSense
