Introduction:
As a Data Engineer in the Real-Time Platform engineering team, you are responsible for delivering great engineering and world class services for our clients. An exciting opportunity for an experienced technologist, you will play an important role in the delivery services for our BUK Data Streaming platform which is used by multiple clients facing applications as well as backend services. You will be also responsible for generating production grade quality code in line with Barclays Secure coding practices and must adapt to emerging technologies trends.
- Development and maintenance of in-house software products.
- Implement best in class cloud solutions in line with Bank standard practices
- Participate in the Agile SCRUM process to ensure software deliverables meets business requirements
- Work with and mentor junior members of the development team
- Assist in the management of an Enterprise Backlog by providing expert technical knowledge
- Define best coding practices and help ensure these are adhered to via code-reviews
- Be prepared to be an active member of an Agile team and assist other areas when required
- Ensure code to meet quality standards (through Checklists) and coverage as measured by code reviews & unit tests (at 90%), Sonar Static code analysis and/or QA reports
- 100% adoption of standard DevOps tools including code quality instrumentation tool and ensuring Top code quality rating
- Leading the team, providing support to colleagues reporting into you
- Identifying own and others’ development needs and seeking opportunities to address these needs through guidance, coaching and formal training
What will you be doing?
- Design and build Kafka applications using the Streams API’s
- Design and build custom Kafka source/sink Connectors
- Build reusable/highly configurable stream processing jobs using Apache Spark or Apache Flink
- Producing and maintaining readable, well-documented code, along with accompanying automated test coverage
- Unit and integration testing of code, and providing support to testing cycles ensuring that defects are resolved.
- Contribute towards best practice across all the feature teams
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with the application support teams to ensure effective delivery of projects into the production environment.
What we’re looking for:
- Hands on experience (minimum 1 year) on Kafka, Apache Sprak/Flink
- Hands on experience on Spring boot, Java, Scala, Gradle, DevOps Pipelines
- Hands on experience of building microservices (REST/GrpahQL) using java/springboot
- Strong understanding of stream processing concepts
- Strong understanding of Microservices and Event Driven architecture & open-source technology landscape
- Experience in performing technical assessment of current state of systems & providing solution
- Passionate about Agile Software processes, data-driven development, reliability and experimentation
