The Digital Student Solutions (“DSS”) Segment includes direct-to-student product and service offerings to assist students to study more effectively and improve academic performance, thus enabling them to gain the valuable skills necessary to succeed after college. DSS is comprised of the operations of Student Brands, LLC, a leading direct-to-student subscription-based writing services business, and bartleby, a direct-to student subscription-based offering providing textbook solutions, expert questions and answers, AI-based writing assistance, and tutoring services.
Bartleby is a central offering in our developing ecosystem of direct-to-student digital products and services, accessible anytime and anywhere. bartleby.com provides critical services for students to achieve better success throughout their academic journey. The bartleby product offerings consist of bartleby learnTM comprised of textbook solutions (over 1,600 titles), question and answer solutions, and study guides; bartleby writeTM comprised of revision, plagiarism, citation and scoring tools; and bartleby tutorTM comprised of online tutoring services.
Overview:
The Business Intelligence team is responsible for the definition and delivery of enterprise level metrics, reporting that drives actionable insights, and governance of our BI platform. The Director Business Intelligence will be accountable for building and maintaining a BI platform that fosters self-serve analytics. In addition to coaching individual analysts, the Director will work directly with data engineering, analytics engineering, product management and business stakeholders to ensure we are meeting their reporting needs. The BI team will also be responsible for delivering advanced analytics such as predictive and prescriptive analysis working with the Experimentation and Data Science team.
Responsibilities:
In This Position, You Will:
- Act as a subject matter expert on data assets, key enterprise level metrics, BI and analytical tools
- Provide leadership, coaching, motivation, and be responsible for developing a team of talented analysts
- Work with leaders across the organization to understand the trends impacting their departments
- Measure the impact of our work and value added to the business
- Collaborate with analytics and stakeholders to prioritize the highest impact work for the organization
- Recommend and implement improvements to our analytics and data science tech stack that will help analysts do their jobs more efficiently and effectively
- Help manage communications and drive adoption for tooling and process changes across all stakeholder groups (both business and technical)
- Support governance and championship of our BI platform
- Assists with developing the budget for BI expenditures
- Advise analysts on best practices for building and maintaining end-to-end reporting pipelines
- Collaborate with the Data Science team to deliver predictive and prescriptive analytics.
- Recruit new team members and help onboard new hires
- Provide opportunities for knowledge sharing, to teach business stakeholders to self-serve with Looker and Amplitude
- Review and approve team code (such as dbt and LookML) prior to merging changes into production
- Troubleshoot and help to resolve disruptions to business-critical reporting
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in a BI or Analytics role, working with significant autonomy and managing teams in either a formal or informal capacity (i.e., direct reports or cross-functional project teams)
- Experience in business data modeling and metadata structure, specifically in support of B2B or B2C consumer facing web applications
- Experience of successful and effective BI system leadership, project management, governance, and ownership
- Skilled in SQL and any other programming language
- Expertise with at least one cloud data warehouse such as BigQuery or Redshift
- Experience linking user behavior tracking (e.g., Google Analytics or Segment) with application data and billing data for conversion and funnel analysis
- Experienced career coach, technical trainer, mentor, and leader
- Intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in developing in Looker, Tableau, or other dashboard technology
- Trained in the visual display of quantitative information
- Comfortable interfacing across all organizational levels and functional roles
- Experienced in requirements gathering, project management, and other aspects of staying organized
- Strong business acumen; Good written and verbal communication skills; Adept at creative problem-solving
- A commitment to promoting and building diverse teams
- BA/BS (Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics preferred), or equivalent experience, required.
