Applied Machine Learning Engineer
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Applied Machine Learning Engineer, are to:
- Reports to Head of Applied Machine Learning;
- Designs and implements scalable tools/services for machine learning training and inference while selecting the suitable cloud and on premises infrastructure for production level machine learning models;
- Establishes collaborations and networks both within and beyond functions to help modernize the drug development pipeline while collaborating with domain experts to deliver best in class ML products;
- Occasionally leads project teams composed of cross-functional individuals;
- Experience and proficiency working with high dimensional biological datasets, including transcriptomics, or connected multi omics (transcriptomics/proteomics/imaging) datasets;
- Provides hands on expertise in building interpretable ML products while incorporating suggestions from wet lab scientists;
- Prior experience with algorithms for single cell RNA seq data aggregation and analysis would be preferred;
- The preferred location for this role is Whippany, NJ or Boston/Cambridge, MA, but residence-based candidates within the Eastern Time Zone in the US will also be considered. Relocation assistance will be offered for this role.

Required qualifications:
- Must have one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience, OR
- Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience, OR
- Ph.D. with 1 year of relevant experience in Machine Learning;
- Relevant experience in drug discovery strongly preferred;
- Demonstrated expertise with open-source deep learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow/PyTorch)
- Strong competency in Python programming;
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience regarding the best practices for deployment and implementation of models on cloud as well as on premises platforms;
- Direct knowledge regarding the implementation of deep learning techniques including Transformers, CNNs, and VAE;
- Highly self-motivated individual with exceptional analytic abilities and scientific rigor who aspires to scientific excellence;
- Capable of presenting complex topics effectively and convincingly to project teams and/or decision-making bodies through good communication skills, while handling high complexity and exhibiting leadership potential through excellent soft skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarity with concepts and actors in molecular biology, such as the principles of gene regulation and the interactions and connections between genes, RNA, and proteins;
- Basic understanding of outputs of omics technologies, particularly transcriptomics and gene expression determination, ideally with an understanding of the analysis of RNA seq data;
- Publications at prestigious conferences including ICML (International Conference on Machine Learning), NIPS (Neural Information Processing Systems), ICLR (International Conference on Learning Representations), and others.
