Under the general supervision of the Manager, Clinical Analytics, the Health Equity Analyst is responsible for providing high quality analyses utilizing self-reported Race, Ethnicity, Language (REL) and other socio-demographic data that have been found to be highly correlated with access to quality care. The Analyst interprets and provides recommendations on quality and cost utilization trends by identifying key drivers of performance and areas of opportunity through methods that include but are not limited to geo mapping, stratification of ambulatory & hospital quality measures, and total medical expense (TME) categories. Following interpretation of data, the analyst also provides recommendations to CMOs for areas of statistically significant disparities within the populations. The Analyst is capable of writing appropriate drill down queries (SQL based queries) to identify those opportunities for improvement. Assures, by data testing, the quality and accuracy of BILHPN’s claims and EMR data. Responsible for developing reports for upper-level management, and supporting requirements of the BCBS Health Equity Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Grant. This position is funded for a one year contract.
The Analyst uses knowledge of statistics and/or SQL programming to analyze quantitative and qualitative data from medical/pharmacy claim and EHR related information via the use of computer-based applications to understand the current trends and drivers in the health care system related to REL data. The Analyst then supports the leadership making well-informed decisions about performance improvements of the plan and care management of the patients. Participates in setting definitions and efficient ways to analyze various healthcare concepts and promotes defining data related efficiencies. Handles the data with confidentiality especially around PHI and sensitive information.
Job Description:
1. Support analytical needs of the BCBS Health Equity Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Grant.
2. Design & support HE dashboard to stratify and track BILHPN standard metrics including but not limited to TME, readmissions, quality measures by REL categorization to support system goals, IHI grant, and the BILH office of Health Equity.
3. Stay on top of industry REL trends and standards and serve as a subject matter expert. Adjust reporting and analytical processes accordingly.
4. If time allows, support other analytical needs within BILHPN (REL related to BILHPN’s MassHealth Contract) and the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) office.
5. On regular basis, test healthcare concepts in BILHPN’s data warehouse to assure accuracy and integrity of data.
6. Collaborate with other analysts and contribute/lead the process to define appropriate mappings for healthcare terminologies to be displayed in the data warehouse.
7. Write and manipulate existing SQL queries/Tableau dashboards to perform complex analytical requests that result in concise findings and recommendations on next steps.
8. Perform own quality checks on performed analyses and utilize internal benchmarks to verify the results.
9. Document performed processes and assure the correct documentation exists in the reporting documentation repository.
10. Collaborate with the Medical Director(s) and business to define the best approaches to find areas for improvement and trend mitigations.
11. Serve as analytical resource and internal consultant for organization’s multidisciplinary quality and utilization improvement initiatives.
12. Upon discussions with other stakeholders, provides actionable data and models for various opportunities (such as cost savings opportunities) for BILHPN’s population.
13. Collaborate with others to identify, understand and promote opportunities to analyze data more efficiently and accurately, and improve data integrity.
14. Use visualization tools to display data for key customers.
15. Work independently and can handle multiple projects simultaneously with little supervision.
