Senior Data Analyst
Data is at the heart of how Better makes business decisions to realize the vision of making home ownership accessible to every American. We are looking for a Senior data analyst to join our in-house Analytics Center of Excellence team.
As a Senior Data Analyst in the team, you will develop a deep understanding of the mortgage business, the process Better follows to optimize operations and the underlying data. You will ideate with stakeholders and create analysis and reports to track KPI’s and metrics essential for day to day operations. Further, you will contribute to decision making that will help Better further optimize it’s Mortgage operations, creating impact on the Top and Bottom line of the company.
To be a successful Senior Data Analyst, you must have a robust background in data analytics and data visualization , be comfortable with ambiguity and tight deadlines. Further, you must also be able to work independently on analytics projects focused on driving impact for the business. Finally, your communication skills must allow you to work elegantly and professionally with cross-functional stakeholders, and influence Better’s data driven decision making .

Responsibilities
- Use advanced working experience of SQL to write optimized queries
- Independently create and present analysis to end stakeholders with focus on impact
- Independently create impactful presentations via Google suite of products or dashboards via Looker
- Understand business problems, propose and independently implement immersive data analytics solutions and generate actionable insights
- Draft responses to time-sensitive data requests from team members that are accurate, digestible, and easy to understand
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineering, product and business teams outside of the analytics team
- Adhere to the highest standards of coding practices
- Help debug and optimize other team members’ code and queries
- Interview and onboard new members to the team when necessary
- Mentor and train junior team members and share effective feedback
Technical Skills
- Expert SQL skills
- Working knowledge of Python
- Demonstrated experience using BI tools like Tableau, Qlikview, Power BI, Looker (preferred) etc.
- 2-4 years of industry experience in a data science or analytics role
- Degree from a highly-competitive academic institution in quantitative field: statistics, economics, applied math, operations research or engineering.
- Previous experience working with very large datasets across multiple databases in startup environment or large commercial institution
- Advanced analytical and Excel skills required to understand, manage, and assess large data sets, including the ability to interpret results
