A day in the life

The Business Technical Analyst is responsible to analyze business systems, processes and technology to ensure resources are maximized to fully support the departmental and organizational needs of the organization. This position must focus on all business operational needs including processing deadlines, priorities, as well as the overall customer experience. In addition, this role identifies and troubleshoots issues and may collaborate with various internal and external parties to ensure consistent operational efficiency.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supports business functions related to member health outcomes and population health initiatives.
  • Understands the numerous existing and future technology needs for the department and how they function within the organization. Works to troubleshoot software, system, upgrades or implementations. Develops, writes and reviews business requirements for system changes or enhancements as well as performs regression, smoke and user acceptance testing as the changes are made.
  • Collaborates with departmental staff when technology issues are identified, works to understand the cause and the overall business impact and follows any issue through resolution including communicating status updates to applicable stakeholders.
  • Coordinates between various internal departments (Case Management) and external business system vendors. Maintains changes for all system platforms within the department. Updates and supports system messaging for both internal and external customers.
  • Makes determinations regarding the appropriateness as well as the level of testing which occurs with new system upgrades, or the launch of new software. Performs validation and other types of system testing at various points in the process to ensure overall optimal functionality.
  • Analyzes and promotes business enhancement efforts with the goal of creating a positive impact on the customer experience or geared towards creating efficiencies.
  • Coordinates setup efforts of employee user access for software and technology for the department.
  • Implements process/technology improvements and determines most effective method for training staff. Assist in the development of training and training materials. Coordinates joint training sessions with staff when process/technology improvements are ready to be implemented.
  • Partners with clinical staff to ensure regulatory standards are being met including, but not limited to URAC and quality reporting requirements.
  • Supports clinical staff across the division.


What you need to succeed

  • Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Healthcare, IT or a related field. Equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training determined to be acceptable may be substituted.
  • 4 years of healthcare, insurance, business systems or related.
  • Experience working with population health is a plus!
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work, as well as to set priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to solve problems that lead to resolutions.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Desire to understand the workings and structure of the organization.


Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards

Job posting policy

Employees new to Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota are eligible to apply for positions within their assigned department after successfully completing 90-days in their role.
