Data & Analytics Governance is hiring a Data Governance Policy Lead. This role supports business and technology partners to help create a culture where data is managed as a valuable corporate asset. Develops, maintains, and monitors data governance processes and tools to improve and maintain the quality of BMO data and reduce overall data management risk. Develops and implements integrated roadmap to guide the review, design, implementation, and ongoing operation of data governance practices and data management processes in alignment with Enterprise Data Governance Operating Directive in applicable areas of the organization. Facilitates input and influences business and technology stakeholders in the aspects of data governance, provides guidance to design and implementation teams on interpretation of enterprise data governance guidelines, and maintains alignment between data governance practices and the data strategy.
- Functional owner of the Enterprise Data Governance Directive and guidelines
- Maintains Data Management Practice Procedures: Data Identification, Data Description, Data Flow, Data Quality, Data Curation, etc.
- Collaborating with stakeholders, responsible for Data Governance Framework ongoing enhancements and efficiencies
- Develops tools and delivers training programs for data management to ensure alignment on the value proposition and need for data management & governance.
- Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic execution.
- Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies.
- Supports and governs a data governance implementation road map including strategic priorities.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to identify business requirements and opportunities for improved data management.
- Conducts needs assessments, identifies gaps and provides suggestions to improve and streamline data governance & management processes based on operational insights.
- Leads working groups to identify opportunities and formulate data governance solutions.
- Supports the management of BMO’s data as a key asset that facilitates effective decision making.
- Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Collaborates with functional owner of Analytics Governance Directive to streamline the processes where necessary
- Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
- Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
- Mentors employees to foster professional development.
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
- Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience developing or implementing Data Governance policies
- In depth experience with Data Management Professional Practices and impact of practices on policy frameworks
- Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.
- Able to manage ambiguity.
- Verbal & written communication skills – In-depth / Expert.
- Analytical and problem solving skills – In-depth / Expert.
- Influence skills – In-depth / Expert.
- Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration – In-depth / Expert.

Nice to have:
- BI tools such as Tableau and Microstrategy, relational databases and Hadoop-based data mining frameworks.
- Familiar with Operational Risk Management (ONFR) Framework
- Familiar with Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Sciences
