This is for a systems engineering (SE) position in the Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) team. As a member of this SEIT team, Systems Safety engineer ensures compliance with required regulations, procedures and policies with primary focus on aviation. Facilitates identification of safety and environmental risks and promotes reduction or elimination of potential accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths and safety-related financial losses. Systems safety engineers develop, administer, and enforce regulations and standards concerning civil aviation safety, including (1) the airworthiness of aircraft and aircraft systems, (2) the competence of pilots, mechanics, and other airmen personnel, and (3) safety aspects of aviation facilities, equipment and procedures.
This position requires basic knowledge and skill in the selected lifecycle of Avionics Systems or sub-system.
Job Description:
- Identify and quantify risk by analyzing and interpreting in service fleet data.
- Assure compliance with FAA safety requirements.
- Provide detailed reports and recommendations for mitigation strategies
- Prepare and present technical presentations. Present requirement, design and/or development revision and changes to formal change boards.
- Participate in Safety Panel Reviews. Coordinates with engineering functions to define requirements and other specialty engineering groups.
- Review flight documents, operational scenarios, and subsequent changes for safety impact
- Participate in associated technical review board meetings.
- Provide real-time and post-flight engineering support for flight anomaly investigations
- Support in testing and validation to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.
- Participates in developing the planning, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
Qualification & Skills Required
Bachelors Engineering degree, Preferably Electronics/Aeronautical/Electrical / Systems Engineering with up to 5-10 years / Master’s degree, with up to 5-8 years’ related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in Airplane systems Displays, Flight Management Systems
- Experience in systems engineering or safety analysis.
- Familiarity with SAE ARP4761 and ARP4754A.
- Basic understanding of DO 254/DO178C standards is mandatory.
- Working knowledge on MIL STD 810 & MIL STD 461 requirement is required.
- Excellent research, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Experience in requirements development, verification or assurance
- Exposure on System design of Avionics LRU components is preferred.
- An understanding of system safety hazards analysis process to include the generation of hazards analysis
- Familiarity of Reliability calculations such as FMEA, FTA and Reliability Tools is an added advantage.
- Basic knowledge of FAA certification and airworthiness requirements is highly desired.
Typical Education & Experience:
Bachelors Engineering degree, Preferably Electronics/Aeronautical/Electrical / Systems Engineering and typically 5 -8 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Master 3+ years’ of related work experience etc.).
