technologies, products, and services. Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) India is
part of Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC), and is focused on
innovation, and developing & transitioning new technologies in support of Boeing
products and services. We work across the complete product lifecycle of Boeing’s
commercial aircraft, military aircraft, rotorcraft, space vehicles, UAVs, and advanced
vehicle prototypes. We provide innovative support for our current and future products and
services, act as global scouts for innovative technologies, and solve our customers’ most
difficult technology challenges.
The Boeing Research & Technology India team has an immediate opening for a Senior
Data Scientist. The selected individual will develop next generation AI/ML and
engineering data analytics methods for aerospace applications. He/She/They will
lead or participate in projects to develop analytics solutions that helps improve aircraft
performance, increase the operational efficiency of aircraft fleet operators,
improve/optimize the productivity of Boeing engineering, operations & manufacturing and
simulate aircraft lifecycle scenarios for potential customers. In addition, the candidate will
support senior members of the team in developing future vision and direction of
Boeings Research and Technology development in the field of Artificial Intelligence,
Machin Learning, image/video processing, NLP, data analytics and their application
to diverse areas relevant to Boeing. He/She/They will actively author & present the
outcomes at various internal & external conferences and contribute to the Innovation
culture thru invention disclosures, patents & trade secrets.
This position will be based out of Bangalore, India and will work with other colleagues
located in India, United States and other global locations. This position will report to the
Manager – AI, Analytics & Automation. This position may require occasional (10%)
travel within India and internationally.
Position Responsibilities:
Leverage AI-driven image processing & deep learning techniques to recognize
classify & catalog vast amount of image & video data for multiple airplane,
airspace & airport applications.
Development of innovative, nonstandard approaches for knowledge discovery
and parametric trending of structured and unstructured data and analysis to
provide actionable information that improves aircraft and fleet efficiency and
performance and helps increase productivity of Boeing engineers.
Applying approaches such as novel statistical and probabilistic methods, machine
learning multivariate analysis, predictive analytics and deep learning techniques to
diverse areas such as airplane health management, manufacturing, automation,
supply chain and more in order to add value to Boeing products.
Developing data visualization technique and implement data dashboards to enable
interpretable representation of raw data as well as results of analysis.
Programming in languages such Python and R as well as developing applications
using tools such as Tableau, Power BI.
Working closely & collaboratively with an international team comprising software
development and research engineers. Develop and maintaining relationships /
partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and partners to develop
collaborative plans and execute on projects.
Help in the adoption of new tools and technology, perform Proof-of-concepts and
help engagements implement & take it over.
Documenting results of research and development projects, and provide inputs for
periodic updates to in the form of progress reports, project summaries, and other
related documents. Tracking and evaluating performance to ensure product and
process conformance to project plans and project requirements.
Mentor & guide junior data scientists on their technical work and growth
aspirations.
Actively author & present the outcomes at various internal & external conferences.
Contribute to the Innovation culture thru invention disclosures, patents & trade
secrets.
Basic Qualifications (essential requirements a candidate MUST have to qualify for the
position):
PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science or related
discipline.
7+ years of overall work experience in data analytics and machine learning
algorithm development and testing.
Excellent presentation & communication skills: Demonstrate strong written,
oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Be fluent in written and
spoken English, and familiar with MS Office tools.
Strong research background in innovating & developing technologies & solutions
thru data science & analytics.
Desired Technical Skills:
Track record in performing and leading research & development of highly
innovative AI-driven solutions for difficult problems.
Expertise in building and productizing Machine Learning/Deep Learning models.
Expertise in working with one or more deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow,
PyTorch.
Experience with image preprocessing techniques, such as noise removal and edge
detection.
Experience with rigid object recognition and tracking.
Must have programming experience in Python, C++, MATLAB.
Knowledge of advanced visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI would be nice.
Be a self-starter who is not afraid to pro-actively seek information and direction to
successfully complete the statement of work.
Be self-motivated and able to work independently with a positive attitude and
highest ethics.
Must be willing to work flexible hours (early or late as needed) to interface with
Boeing personnel around the world.
