Come join our

Translational Genomics Group

, a tightly knit team of scientists, software engineers, computational biologists, medical doctors, and geneticists. In this role, you will become a key contributor to our open-source software platform,

seqr

.

The

seqr

platform is used by an international consortium of collaborating clinicians, researchers, and industry partners, and significantly improves their ability to search through large genomic datasets and make discoveries and diagnoses. seqr is core to our efforts both in the

Rare Genomes Project

and the

Broad Center for Mendelian Genomics

, and has already enabled us to provide genetic diagnoses to more than 2,000 rare disease families. We are now looking for a full-stack software engineer that will help with the next phase of this project.

Responsibilities include:
  • Create and maintain infrastructure as code and automated workflows
  • Work closely with other software engineers to develop robust architectural designs and continuous integration processes.
  • Develop and maintain automated workflows for processing large genetic datasets.
  • Develop and maintain deployment architecture for external open-source deployment
  • Write build tools and scripts in Bash, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Technologies relevant to this role: Google Cloud Platform, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Apache Airflow,

    Dataproc

    , and

    Hail

    (experience in all not required).

Characteristics and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering, though exceptional candidates with less will be considered.
  • Previous experience working with data-intensive workflows preferred.
  • Familiar with Git and modern team-based software development practices, including peer code review through pull requests.
  • Interest in working with a wide variety of technologies and on diverse problems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with users.
  • Familiarity with genomics and DNA sequencing data analysis is a plus.
The

Translational Genomics Group

works at the frontiers of research in genetic medicine. Very little of what we do involves applying rote learning, instead, we put a very high premium on intellectual curiosity and creativity. We need teammates who are engaged and committed to our goals and collaborate well and openly with colleagues who bring diverse expertise to the table. The work is loosely structured and fast moving; we will rely on your professionalism, ability to learn the domain, and flexibility in the face of change to succeed.

Key to our success is growing a strong team with a diverse membership who foster a culture of continual learning, and who support the growth and success of one another. Towards this end, we are committed to seeking applications from women and from underrepresented groups. We know that many excellent candidates choose not to apply despite their capabilities; please allow us to enthusiastically counter this tendency. If you are a devops, data or software engineer who
is eager to grow professionally and to contribute to our team culture and to participate in high-impact, open science, then we encourage you to apply.
All Broad employees, regardless of work location, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Requests for exemption for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will be considered.
