Your Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking to hire a Lead ML Engineer in Speech Recognition to join our growing team! This is a hands-on technical role where you will spend most of your time designing and implementing deep-learning-based solutions to speech and audio processing problems in order to deliver improvements to our Conversational AI product. This is balanced with the need to manage applied research to solve novel problems in our domain as well as mentoring other hardworking engineers. We are looking for someone who has extensive experience designing, implementing, training, and deploying speech and audio models that work in the real world. Successful candidates will:

• Function as a senior ML expert, both guiding other engineers to solve complex algorithmic and architectural challenges as well as rolling their sleeves up to build solutions themselves
• Lead the development and optimization of our state-of-the-art speech recognition system using large-scale real-world data
• Creatively balance the need to deploy and support production ASR models at scale with exploratory research and development, including coordinating with dedicated Research teams in other parts of IBM
• Work collaboratively with multiple teams to develop and improve pipelines and tooling for continuous training and evaluation of speech models

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Research or experience in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and/or Speech Recognition
• Experience working with large production codebases in Python, C++, or similar languages
• Experience building ML models using toolkits such as PyTorch, MxNet, Tensorflow, or similar
• Experience designing and deploying ASR models or systems

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Experience writing production-quality software in Python
• Experience with fully neural-network based approaches to Speech Recognition
• Experience with language identification, endpoint detection, or speech activity detection models
• Experience with MLOps or solving ML problems at scale
