About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to be part of the Hybrid Cloud Data Ecosystem team supporting our Cyber Security Data Science and Analytics function. The team is continually advancing state-of-the-art technologies and solutions to solve a wide range of complex data management and analytics problems.

This position will be working in a highly collaborative environment together with the business, technologists and control partners to deploy solutions into production. Working on data intensive use cases operating on highly scalable (multi-petabytes) data, and focused on investing independent time towards learning, researching and experimenting with new innovations in the field.

This is a critical role working very directly with the Head of Wells Fargo’s Cyber Security Data Ecosystem and singularly providing architecture and engineering direction to all of the ecosystem engineering teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Define integrated engineering components of the big data ecosystem, including data platforms, pipeline and data management components related to data ingestion, processing, storage and consumption
  • Define data organization aligned to domains and data product ownership
  • Develop Data Engineering standards and practices for diverse data procurement and distribution, consumption patterns, including recommended technologies, systems integration models and SLA management
  • Direct engineering team execution by engaging on critical solution implementation activities and resolve bottlenecks
  • Provide inputs to leaders into roadmap and budget exercise such component level book of work, level of effort, skills, SW licensing/costs, and other dependencies
  • Enforce and evolve DevOps/SRE best practices for fully automated deployment and production observability
  • Define the use of relational and NoSQL databases, associated modeling and layout, to enable polyglot access patterns and optimize data consumption
  • Work with Operations group to design and implement maintenance routines, automated monitoring solutions, backup and disaster recovery strategy, and support production systems by providing timely fixes.
  • Coach and mentor engineers on design, development, and documentation best practices, including conducting design and peer/code reviews, aligning with enterprise CI/CD standards, ensuring code maintainability, following build processes, and automated QA
  • Act as an expert advisor to leadership to develop or influence ecosystem architecture, data services, information security and data governance automation for complex cyber security analytics and AI/ML use cases
  • Lead the strategy, roadmap and technology solutions for unique and complex challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are strategic, and aligned to enterprise strategy and standards
  • Corroborate a rich experience of advanced data technologies, an in-depth knowledge of the organization’s tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment/strategy, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities into technical engineering solutions that deliver value on time
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative business solutions that solve real problems
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices and new technologies and recommend innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Engage with all levels of engineers and leaders across the enterprise to educate, rationalize, influence and in general act as the design authority for the team

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 7+ years of experience with Big Data management technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Polyglot Compute and Container Orchestration
  • 3+ years of configuration experience with Cloud service providers such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • 3+ years of data warehouse and data analytics solutions delivery experience on private or public cloud platforms
  • 5+ years of development experience with languages such as Python, Java, or Scala

Desired Qualifications:

  • A degree in Computer Science or relevant Cloud and Data Specialty Certifications
  • Strong thought, team, execution and personal leadership and communication skills
  • Rich/deep experience in Big Data, preferably leveraging Cloud Services and DevOps automation
  • Experience implementing data architectures that are distributed and with disaggregated compute/storage
  • Automation of data management and governance capabilities and controls
  • Modern Data Mesh and Data Product concepts
  • Experience leading solution architecture and engineering teams for architecturally significant programs
