What will you do at Ciena?
The Blue Planet software division is seeking a stellar Data Engineer for new initiatives in the Enterprise network automation space. The candidate will be responsible for developing closed-loop network automation solutions on top of the Blue Planet platform to serve the Enterprise market. The Blue Planet platform is based on a modern software architecture that demonstrates open-source technologies, model-driven templates and container-based micro-services. The right candidate will be a proven developer with outstanding teamwork skills, and a track record of delivering products in a high-performance environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop cloud-based Assurance and Configuration Management software for closed-loop Enterprise network automation use cases in the LAN, WAN, Wireless, Data Center, Cloud and Security areas on top of the Blue Planet platform
- Participate in all phases of the development cycle – plan, design, implement, review, test, deploy, document, and train
- Collaborate with other technical leads and architects on system architecture and design
- Influence architectural decisions, participate in design/code reviews, test plans and technology strategy
- Work closely and optimally with other software development teams as well as product line management, architecture and product verification teams
- Foster an environment of continuous improvement in software engineering practices and product quality
Collaboration with collaborators
- Daily collaboration with software engineers, testers, UI developers and data scientists
- Work in a distributed team environment
- Occasional interactions with partners and customers
Experience/skills
- Proficient with Scala or Python programming (other languages an asset)
- Experience architecting web-based software applications using Scala or Java and REST APIs (Play framework an asset)
- Experience developing data-driven applications
- Experience with AWS, CI/CD, D ocker and Kubernetes
- Interest and ability to quickly learn and ramp-up on new languages and technologies
- Apache NiFi ecosystem an asset
- Experience with telecom networks (LAN, WAN, Wireless), NOCs, TAC, OSS an asset
- Experience writing Ansible Automation playbooks and roles, or experience with Puppet, Chef and Salt is an asset
- Experience working in Agile development environments
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
- Experience in a software development role, preferably in the Enterprise networking domain
