Job Title: Global Functions Technology – Data Engineer – Assistant Vice President

Global Functions Technology (GFT) is a diverse organization comprised of more than 15,000 talented professionals with some of the brightest minds – all working collectively to realize Citi’s Vision of growth and economic progress. As a group, we partner with the Finance, Risk, Compliance, and Human Resources teams to drive the delivery of innovative technology solutions using common data, data analysis, and platforms. Our technology operates in real-time environments, capturing and managing market, transaction, and accounting data, as well as the data from millions of customers daily. Our solutions cover all products and geographies in which Citi does business. We are the backbone for reporting across the bank, satisfying our regulatory obligations, enabling our businesses to be nimbler and helping to safeguard customer assets through highly effective controls.
GFT is accountable for providing and delivering end-to-end design, application development and advocates infrastructure management to the Global Functions across Citi’s lines of business and regions. As part of Citi’s broad transformation strategy, GFT is presently undergoing a large-scale, multi-year Agile transformation throughout our 16k-person organization. Along with that transformation, we will need proven, sound, and solid software engineers, agile practitioners, and technical team managers to drive the success of our nascent agile teams.

The Role
The Data Engineer is accountable for building and maintaining enterprise-grade ETL, reporting and data interpretation solutions, as part of a cross-functional Agile team. They are accountable for ensuring the team is consistently delivering performant, secure, and efficient solutions. A Data Engineer will serve as an example to other team members, work closely with customers, and remove or escalate roadblocks. Additionally, they will apply their knowledge of business intelligence/ data architecture standards, data warehousing, data structures, and assessment as strong contributors on an agile team.
Responsibilities:

Adhere to data engineering best practices and standards (e.g., Data Discovery, Naming Conventions, Operational Excellence, and Data Security).

Knows how to evaluate end-to-end data designs for strengths and weaknesses (data quality, scalability, latency, security, performance, data integrity, etc.)

Knows how to decouple reliant systems, prevent duplicate engineering efforts, and mitigate risks that precede data quality issues or that might cause deployment collisions/outages.

Leverage technical knowledge of concepts and procedures within own area and basic knowledge of other areas to resolve issues, as necessary.

Follow and contribute to defining technical and team standards

Unite technical management to achieve established goals, in line with our broader technical strategy.
Qualifications
-
3+ years’ experience with agile and iterative software delivery in a Data Engineering role
-
3+ years experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
-
3+ years experience driving and influencing the data strategy of your team or organization
-
3+ years experience designing and delivering large scale secured data pipelines from ingestion to consumption using Java, Python, Scala, etc.
-
3+ years experience using modern technology (e.g., Java, Cassandra, Kafka) and design patterns (microservices, APIs, streaming)
-
Experience in building horizontally scalable, highly available, highly resilient and low latency applications
-
Experience with Cloud infrastructure both on-premise and public cloud (i.e., OpenShift, AWS, etc.)

A passion for learning new technologies, and a desire for personal growth, through self-study, formal classes, or on-the-job training.
-
A passion for building high quality products which customers love.
Preferred Qualifications
-
3+ years experience working with Ab Initio ETL and Data Management solutions including ability to comprehend the internal working of variety of Ab Initio components.

3+ years experience creating highly efficient reusable frameworks and design patterns in Ab Initio.
-
3+ years experience with performance tuning techniques in Ab Initio.

3+ years and demonstrated knowledge across full suite of Ab Initio toolsets e.g., GDE, Express>It, Data Profiler and Conduct>It, control center, continuous flow

3+ years experience in cloud native technologies and patterns (AWS, Google Cloud)
-
3+ years experience with Big Data Technologies (i.e., Hadoop, HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, Pig, Spark, etc.)
-
Demonstrated ability to engineer for high availability, high resiliency, low latency, and scale
-
Comprehension of RDBMS and NoSQL technologies.

Experience with automation techniques including CI/CD

Proficient in programming in Python or Java with prior Apache Beam/Spark experience a plus

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
