Description

Under limited supervision lead and manage the COVID-19 data analytics team. More specifically, respond data requests, lead projects for new data infrastructure and reporting as needed, perform quality checks to reports and dashboards, identify new tools for surveillance and analytics related to COVID-19. Overall, be responsible for the collection, management, analysis, visualization, reports, and interpretation of statistical data of COVID-19 data for the City of Detroit. This position works to promote and protect the health and safety

Examples of Duties

  • Manage the day-to-day activities and lead the COVID-19 data analytics team
  • Provide expertise in full life cycle data collection, cleaning, management, analytics, visualization, and reporting
  • Review the quality of databases, reports, dashboards, and data requests using continuous data quality checks
  • Ensure that data integrity and information privacy policies and procedures are followed
  • Lead and manage new projects related to COVID-19 data
  • Identify and implement new tools/methods for the surveillance and reporting of COVID-19
  • Perform basic data management, data cleaning and statistical analysis using R, SQL, or other statistical programming language on COVID-19 data to complete data extracts.
  • Produce and analyze reports for the purposes of monitoring disease trends and providing timely data in support of COVID-19 response and to inform the public.
  • Collaborate with agency and external groups providing public health surveillance support and data & analytics support to the COVID-19 response.
  • Effectively communicate technical, and general information regarding COVID-19 data to a variety of audiences including agency leadership, policy makers and public health professionals.
  • Provide feedback to direct reports as necessary
  • Develop and provide training and guidance
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of managerial and project management experience
  • Minimum of three (3) year of full-time, professional work experience with data cleaning, data management and statistical analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, Public Health, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in use of data analytics and visualization software (e.g., R, SAS, ArcGIS, SPSS, SQL, STATA, Tableau) as well as Microsoft Office, Excel pivot tables
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in navigating computer systems; ability to learn new data systems quickly and to comply with data integrity and security to safeguard all personal identifiable information
  • Highly motivated and organized with the ability to work well in teams and independently on multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to be efficient and consistently deliver high-quality work under time constraints.
  • Ability to demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and work ethic
