The Position

The City of Portland is currently seeking a Data Analyst to join the AT Traffic Safety team within the Portland Bureau of Transportation!
The Vision Zero Data Analyst will support and promote the development of Vision Zero policies, systems, programs and outreach to improve traffic safety and enhance safe systems throughout the City. This position will work in the Safety Section of the Active Transportation Division. The Vision Zero Data Analyst focuses on traffic crash and other safety analysis, mapping, data visualization, and other bicycle, pedestrian and complete streets focused transportation planning and analysis.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Provide
    data analysis, research support and data visualization to planning, design and outreach teams for transportation projects

  • Serve
    as a liaison to other work groups and bureaus in the City on issues related to crash and other traffic safety data

  • Analyze
    crash data and prepare statistical reports
  • Interpret and analyze data from traffic modeling software, geographic information systems, databases and other information systems and general research sources.

  • Collaborate
    with performance and data teams across the Bureau and throughout the City

  • Develop
    geographic information systems databases, models, and applications

  • Communicate
    analytical findings and results to a lay audience with graphics, maps, and charts

  • Manage
    interdepartmental crash data sharing.

  • Author
    an annual report about crash statistics and other safety metrics

  • Serve
    as resource of safety performance metrics, safety data and traffic safety countermeasures

  • Integrate
    a racial equity lens into data analysis for safety projects and programs

Data Visualization skills and experience working with crash data are preferred but not required.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement
As of October 18, 2021, all City employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. This is required for all positions at the City of Portland. Work Location
Currently, many positions with the City of Portland are being performed as a remote/onsite mix. In the future, these positions: 1) may remain as a remote/onsite mix or 2) revert to full-time at a city work location.

To Qualify

Applicants must provide details in their supplemental question responses and resume that demonstrate how their education, training and/or experience, meets each of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting information, metrics, and statistical data.
  • Experience communicating technical data effectively, orally and in writing; presenting conclusions and recommendations clearly and logically to varied audiences
  • Experience with the development and monitoring of performance metrics and indicators with a focus on program evaluation and continuous process improvement (such as Key Performance Indicators)
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others in achieving tasks and to establish and maintain on-going productive working relationships.
