This position is on-site at AFRL Rome Research Site. Person will be the customer and technology interface, leading a 3-person team working with the customer to integrate and debug third party software. Position will require interaction with the original software developers to receive new software versions, compile source code and perform testing to ensure the outcome fulfills the requirements laid out by the customer. There are immediate leadership requirements with the potential to grow into a managerial role. Work is done in a cross-functional software development team (business analysts, software engineers, testers). Software is developed using the Java, Java Script, and other high level programming languages. Knowledge of database constructs is required to develop reports on how successful and efficient the software fulfills the requirements. Knowledge of C++, LISP, Python, and Google Go languages and environments is beneficial. Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug new and existing software systems and/or applications
  • Use Java programming language and related software development technologies such as Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Java-Server Pages (JSP)/Servlets, or Java-Server Faces (JSF).
  • Serve as technical expert on development projects. Participate in full development life cycle including requirements analysis and design.
  • Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements. Support, maintain, and document software functionality. Identify and evaluate new technologies for implementation.
  • Analyze code to find causes of errors and revise programs as needed. Participate in software design meetings and analyze user needs to determine technical requirements.
  • Consult with end-user to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs.
  • Works under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment.
  • Functions in a high traffic transactional web-based data environment.
  • Develops and maintain a thorough and automated unit test harnesses for developed solutions.
  • Develop and deploy systems in an iterative, incremental process that fully embraces Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Follow Agile Software Engineering and development practices Minimum Qualifications
  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Strong background in JAVA development is required.
  • Background in JavaScript and web authoring tools.
  • Clearance-must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance.
  • Must have (or be able to obtain) Security+ and Linux+ certifications Preferred Requirements
  • C/C++ development experience a plus.
  • Familiarity and willingness to work in an Agile Development environment is desired.
  • Related technical certifications may be required.
  • 3 years professional experience with development in a Linux/Unix environment is desired.
  • 3 years professional experience in Modeling and Simulation (M&S) design is desired.
  • Experience with C4I Systems is a plus.
  • System interface development experience a plus.
  • Shell Scripting or other knowledge of other Scripting languages is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment is required.
  • Military domain experience is a plus.
  • On-site support required. Daily interface with customers.
