Position Summary
The Business Intelligence Analyst reports to the Director as part of the Data Analytics and Reporting group within Columbia University’s Facilities and Operations (CUFO), which handles a wide array of projects related to data reporting, analytics, and process improvement. CUFO comprises all operations and capital project management for both Morningside Campus Facilities, Manhattanville Campus Facilities, and Campus Services.
Responsibilities
Interpreting and analyzing complicated large-scale data sets from disparate systems, the BI Analyst provides reporting and analysis to CUFO stakeholders and acts as an in-house consultant on a wide array of projects.
They conduct data analyses, prepares financial information, and provides ad hoc reporting for a wide variety of internal clients.
The BI Analyst assists in developing a new suite of financial and operational reports specifically designed for the new Manhattanville Campus.
Under the direction of the Director, the BI Analyst authors quality control tools to maintain the integrity and accuracy of data, review procedures, and identify appropriate workflow processes.
The BI Analyst identifies operational, procedural, and organizational recommendations to deliver service improvements to clients and drive efficiency in reporting/analytics.
The BI Analyst maintains a strong working knowledge of and relationships with stakeholders in multiple departments.
The BI Analyst assists with the maintenance and development of compelling reports and dashboards to track financials, identify trends, monitor business operations, and be used as future predictors.
The BI Analyst performs research to identify best practices and benchmarking data at peer institutions and industry.
The BI Analyst provides support to the Director and team as necessary, such as report and presentation design and external representation.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and/or its equivalent, plus a minimum of 2-4 years related experience required.
Must possess strong technical skills, analytical skills, critical thinking and practical problem solving abilities.
Excellent communication, writing, presentation, quantitative, and interpersonal skills required.
Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, Windows, Visio, PowerPoint and data applications required.
Experience with SQL and exposure to data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau, ect) desired.
Strong research skills needed.
Ability to work as a member of a collaborative team while exercising independent judgment is essential.
Must possess discretion and be able to handle multiple concurrent projects.
Preferred Qualifications
SSAS experience a plus.
