Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor for Strategic Information (TRACE), the Data Analyst will provide surveillance and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) support in the areas of data management, documentation, and analysis, including to an evaluation study investigating the impact of recency testing on 1) identifying HIV positive contacts of newly diagnosed individuals living with HIV and 2) the risk of intimate partner violence resulting from the disclosure of recency testing results. The Data Analyst will also support other analytic and operational activities related to strategic information (SI) projects, to strengthen health information systems globally, as needed. Responsibilities may include data cleaning and management, statistical analysis plan execution, analytic programming and validation, and preparation of reports and data documentation to support analyses. The Senior Technical Advisor will prioritize tasks and assignments for the analyst. The analyst will also perform additional duties for the project as needed.
Responsibilities
Update, write, validate, and run statistical programs for monitoring and statistics (e.g., creation of datasets, tables, figures and listings) (25%)
Conduct data analysis and generate surveillance reports (20%)
Assist with data cleaning and data management (20%)
Prepare data documentation including data dictionaries, codebooks, and data use manuals (10%)
Summarize data and prepare routine and ad hoc reports and presentations to meet reporting requirements and requests for donors and stakeholders (e.g., SAPs, PowerPoint, dashboards) (10%)
Provide statistical programming expertise to project teams by preparing analytic data files, writing code for macros, and utilizing macro libraries (5%)
Develops and updates specifications for automated monitoring reports to be generated by study or project databases (5%)
Perform other related duties as assigned (5%)
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, demography, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience in data analysis (preferably using SAS and/or R) and statistical analysis with a high level of organization, autonomy, technical skill and team orientation
3-5 years of related experience designing, managing, and working directly with databases from research studies
Demonstrated writing skills: reports, presentations, and/or protocols
Demonstrated experience executing statistical programs for the creation of tables, figures, listings, and analysis databases
Demonstrated expertise in project-specific dataset/database structures and related data cleaning and coding methods
Excellent attention to detail and strong formatting skills using the Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of public health, preferably including global HIV/AIDS
Knowledge of R or other statistical language for making figures
Knowledge of data cleaning methods
