The Data Visualisation team works within Sky’s Data Hub to create data products, dashboards and visualisations that bring Sky’s data to life, supporting our businesses across Europe.

Data Engineer

What you’ll do:

• Guide, shape and contribute to the technical solutions on each project
• Deliver high quality requirements, on time, every time
• Have knowledge of data capture, update, usage and other core business processes that influence data life-cycle
• Actively carrying out data analytics / data profiling to recommend improvements to enhance data quality, process improvement and business rule improvement
• Help drive key data architecture and solution data modelling decisions by demonstrating a working understanding of the underlying data requirements, source systems and target business areas.
• Design & develop high quality, testable and performant software using agile practices
• Work collaboratively with testers, analysts & designers
• Deliver to tight deadlines
• Assist with the mentoring of Associate Engineers
• Produce clear and concise documentation of test coverage to agreed standards, with Stakeholders.
• Define plan, script and execute tests.
• Document and validates all test risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies.
• Identify, code and maintain automated scripts for regression and integration tests or data creation.
• Provide accurate test estimates to support planning of path to production.
• Initiate and implement improvements of test process and appropriate tooling.
• Work with and assist other teams within the department, providing technical & domain input.
• Assist with the mentoring of associate testers and colleagues.

What you’ll bring:

• Good Cloud experience (GCP preferable), with understanding of large-scale data, data warehouses, data pipelines and/or data streaming
• Experience in data warehouse design and principles.
• Good SQL skills and understanding of RDMS, experience of Google BigQuery, Netezza or other MPP system useful, Selenium, Cucumber, LeanFT, Java, Maven, Jenkins, Git, Oracle.
• Good experience in Shell scripting, Python, Java
• Good understanding of logical and physical data modelling.
• A desire to learn new technologies
• An attention to detail, a desire to improve and an attitude to deliver
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to influence technical decisions in a fast-moving commercial environment
• Good experience of the full software development life-cycle including IaC, TDD and CI/CD
• Comfortable with developing testing capability in automation frameworks.
• Experience of working in a fast paced environment to demanding timelines
