Job Summary

Under the direction of the Business Continuity Program Manager, works with County agencies and departments to identify, develop and implement Continuity of Government (COG) and Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP), which supports business resiliency objectives for the County. Responsible for day-to-day County business continuity activities. Leverages staff expertise in Technology, Finance and Facilities Management to develop and deliver solutions for Cook County’s operations. Creates and manages project plans, schedules, budgets, deliverables, communication plans, risk logs, issues logs, status reports and performance metrics from concept through completion of business continuity projects. Coordinates the efforts of team members and third-party contractors and/or consultants to deliver business continuity solutions that meet requirements. May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three (3) years of work experience as a Business Continuity Analyst or other business continuity professional.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science or Information Technology.
  • Participation in, or subscription to, at least one Disaster Recovery Management professional organization or publication such as Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII), Disaster Recovery Journal (DRJ), Business Continuity Institute (BCI), or Association of Continuity Professionals (ACP International)
  • Certification as an Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) or Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP).
  • Experience working in Business Continuity Management for a government entity.
  • Project leadership or management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics

Knowledge of business continuity planning concepts, including FEMA’s Continuity of Government and Continuity of Operations guidance and templates. Knowledge of mainframe, midrange and server platforms and networking. Familiarity with power distribution and power back-up systems. Effectively communicates with sponsors, stakeholders and project teams. Skill in time management, prioritization and managing concurrent work assignments. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office particularly, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook. Skill in developing and administering business impact analyses, risk assessments and surveys. Ability to build and develop effective working relationships with both internal and external customers. Ability to initiate activities with limited guidance and operating with ambiguous information. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work

Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time
