The following position is to join our Corporate or Research Center Team:
Principal Researcher, Machine Learning
In this role, you will join the Advanced Learning and Analytics (ALA) team in the AI discipline at Raytheon Technologies Research Center (RTRC). The team researches and develops ML, computer vision, natural language processing and human computer interaction solutions for a variety of high impact real world problems in the aerospace, manufacturing and defense industries. Examples include autonomous flight, material discovery and design, automated visual inspection of parts, robotic perception and prognostics and health management. We conduct basic and applied research in a stimulating multi-disciplinary environment where scientists, engineers, practitioners and subject matter experts collaborate and exchange experience. We’re looking for a highly motivated candidate eager to use and extend state of the art Machine Learning approaches in the above areas.
Basic Qualifications:
- Has solid hands-on experience with state-of-the-art ML approaches, especially in computer vision
- Can research, design and implement novel ML approaches for multi-modal data
- Can initiate, lead, and execute internal and external funding opportunities
- Stays abreast of the latest developments in the field and champion new ideas and problem definitions.
- Can work effectively in a multidisciplinary team partnering with universities, government agencies, and national labs.
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in ML algorithms, off-the-shelf packages and development environments.
- 5+ years of professional experience in understanding real world problem statements, formulating them as an ML problem, identifying candidate ML approaches and implementing them.
- Experience in synthesizing and combining multiple ML approaches to address novel problems.
- Experience being the technical lead on ML projects and guiding junior members
- Experience in communicating technical progress and outcome at multiple levels of detail (to technical colleagues, management and broader audience)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong mathematical background in statistics and linear algebra
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in computer vision.
- Strong publication record in top-tier AI/ML/CV conferences
- May have broad knowledge of project management.
- Requires substantial knowledge of RTX projects, programs or
systems in order to provide enhancements within job area.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills with track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation and initiative
- Clear and effective communication with all levels of management, business development, researchers and customers
- Ability to provide timely, accurate and detailed presentations, as well as documenting and publishing approaches and findings for in papers, white papers and patents for internal and external audiences.
- Ability to work independently with limited direction to accomplish project goals
Education:
Required: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related quantitative discipline (Statistics, Applied Mathematics).
Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience
Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a
minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
