Job Description:
OVERVIEW:
The Junior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer works to support the provision of business intelligence solutions to the firm using market leading BI tools. Under the guidance of the Senior BI Analyst, the Junior BI Developer will become knowledgeable of Crowe data structures while developing report and data analytics solutions. Beyond BI solution development and client support, BI platform administration, monitoring, maintenance and support are significant components of this role’s responsibilities. Success in this role requires a strong interest in analysis and problem-solving, and excellent interpersonal, communication, listening and presentation skills. The Junior BI Developer works within the BI team and within project teams as a component of larger projects.
- Work with Senior BI Analyst and business SMEs to discover BI solution requirements. Analyze and develop potential alternatives to present data (reports, visualizations, dashboards, scorecards, delivery methods, etc.) and make recommendations to internal clients to provide the best possible BI solution to meet requirements.
- Support and enhance existing BI solutions and convert / migrate legacy solutions. Update existing BI framework models to support changing requirements or enhancements. Augment models with business terms and definitions.
- Perform unit testing of BI solutions. Assist with preparation of user acceptance test plans. Monitor and work to resolve defects in solutions. Identify data quality issues and work with others to cleanse data as needed to satisfy solution requirements.
- Address support incidents and BI solution requests. Monitor reported BI incidents, provide second level support to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to BI solutions and platforms. Work with other members of Crowe functional groups to assist with support issues. Document and process change requests. Work with Information Technology resources to implement BI solutions.
- Track work requests and communicate status updates.
- Support administration of the BI platforms. Assist with object security and BI platform maintenance; audit BI objects and content inventory. Coordinate and assist IT technical support to maintain, upgrade and enhance enterprise level BI platforms. Monitor BI technology in marketplace for new capabilities and evaluate, recommend and promote adoption of new tools. Research add-on tools for platform extension and administrative support to improve platform sustainability.
- Prepare and maintain system level documentation. Assist the BI team in establishing and documenting BI best practices, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate platform capabilities and promote application of tools as appropriate to address business requirements. Collaborate with peers on emerging BI technology
- Interest in analyzing data, observing trends and helping others gain insights from data
- Experience with at least one BI tool, specifically Cognos Analytics, Tableau, or Power BI
- Experience with database technology; MS SQL Server, Azure SQL, Snowflake
- Understand data modeling concepts and skilled in SQL to query data
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Comfort working independently and as part of a team
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data/Information Science, Management Information Systems or engineering fields, Actuarial Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related degree with a focus in Data Analytics, or equivalent experience.
- 2-4 years of experience developing business intelligence solutions and/or supporting BI platforms
- Very limited travel required to perform job duties (< 5%)
- As required, work after-hours and during maintenance periods
