We are seeking a Data Engineer (Information Systems Specialist 6) to join our Office of Reporting, Research, Analytics and Implementation team.

What you need to qualify
Five (5) years of information systems experience.
Education will substitute for experience based on the following:
  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field will substitute for two (2) years of experience.
  • Completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field will substitute for two (2) years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field will substitute for four (4) years of experience.
Essential attributes
We are looking for candidates with:
  • Attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS).
  • Experience creating dimensional modeling in both star and snowflake schema.
  • Ability to contribute to the team’s success, provide feedback, and work collaboratively.
  • Experience collaborating with professionals from multiple programs to identify data and to design and develop tabular cubes/models for optimal performance and ease of use.
  • Experience identifying, developing, and implementing methods to extract, transform, and load data in preparation for the data warehouse.
Preferred Attributes
These attributes are not required to be competitive; they are a plus.
  • Experience with cloud environments and Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Experience with Azure or AWS and Azure DevOps or other Development Operations tools.
  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying in a modern SaaS-based architecture.

Your duties at a glance
The Office of Reporting, Research, Analytics and Implementation (ORRAI) provides mission critical information to leadership and employees, legislators, partner agencies, and the public. The office utilizes ODHS and inter-agency program data and tools such as predictive analytics, workload modeling, and other quantitative and qualitative methods to improve outcomes for children and families. The office translates data into information and develops practitioner tools to ensure decisions are data informed.
We have two teams that work very closely together. These teams are essential and perform a wide variety of very precise work. These teams are the data warehouse team and the reporting team.
As a Data Engineer, you will be part of the data warehouse team.
You will be responsible for:
  • Supporting five programs with very different data systems.
  • Following standards carefully and accurately.
  • Bringing in data to the data warehouse from a variety of sources and systems from all the agency’s real systems.
  • Following set requirements and established workflow.
  • Managing and writing code, building data sources for reporting purposes, and creating reports and dashboards for a variety of programs and users.
  • Extracting, transferring, and loading information and data.
  • Working closely with Database Administrators to manage data transfers, share data with other agencies and organizations, etc.
Working conditions
  • Working remotely will be considered in filling this position. The ability to report to Salem is required when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities.
  • Our work is foundational and requires you to keep up to date with new tools and technology.
  • Normally you will work a standard work week that may involve irregular work hours at times of contract development and budget implementation and rebalancing.

  • You may need to infrequently travel throughout Oregon.
