Job Location: San Francisco, CA

It takes powerful technology to connect our brands and partners with an audience of nearly 900 million. Whether you’re looking to write mobile app code, engineer the servers behind our massive ad tech stacks, or develop algorithms to help us process trillions of data points a day, what you do here will have a huge impact on our business—and the world. Want in?

Yahoo is looking for a behavioral engineer to become a member of the Consumer Behavioral Engineering Team.

About The Team

The Consumer Behavioral Engineering Team works closely with teams across Yahoo to ensure our products and services protect user security.

This team is a group of curious and creative collaborators, each bringing a specialty somewhat unusual to cybersecurity. We are behavioral analysts, journalists, marketers, open source intelligence practitioners, artists and data visualizers who use cognitive science and technology to cultivate positive changes in consumer behavior in order to positively impact our company’s overall security posture.

This role will ensure that security is part of Yahoo’s DNA, helping our customers build positive security habits and adopt strong authentication methods to protect their accounts.

About you!

You know how attackers work, you know how they’ll take over consumer accounts, and more importantly you know how to block those attacks for everyday consumers.

You are customer focused and are passionate about helping users by reducing friction in utilizing account security features and ensuring they get timely education to protect themselves, their data, and their information.

You are excited to build our external brand and make Yahoo synonymous with security and safety.

You are looking for the opportunity to grow these programs, along with your career, and keep Yahoo forward-thinking when it comes to securing our users.

What you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Develop strategies, programs, systems and tools that enhance our approach in keeping our users safe and secure
  • Think through big questions, such as: how do we tie our biggest risks back to behavior? How do we change those behaviors in the short and long term? How do we create metrics to track our progress and socialize those metrics internally?
  • Work with our cross-functional partners in Communications, Compliance, Product, Marketing, Legal, Identity, and Engineering
  • Initiate, plan, design, and execute on security and privacy awareness content campaigns for our customers
  • Stay up to date on the direction of emerging security and privacy issues
  • Use behavioral science methods to inform your approach to driving the security behaviors of our customers.
  • Develop or modify awareness plans for different cultures, nationalities, and languages
  • Be creative! What other ways can we engage our users and colleagues? What can we offer them to improve?

Job Requirements (Offensive Analyst):

  • Program management experience: the ability to plan, manage, and maintain an organization-wide program over the longer term
  • Change management experience: the ability to change the way our cross-functional teams work towards helping secure our customers
  • Knowledgeable of common attacks affecting consumer accounts and how to block them.
  • Strong Knowledge of MFA: Understanding of various methods (e.g. SMS, Push, OTP, FIDO), their pros and cons, and usability.
  • BS in computer science, anthropology, sociology, marketing, a related technical/social science field, or equivalent experience

Bonus Points For:

  • A passion for Yahoo and the products we produce
  • Experience with global customers
