How do people watch the news and how is that changing?
How do ABC News programs, both on broadcast television and in the streaming space, fare among different audiences and how can they do better?
The ABC News Consumer Insights teams works across the ABC News organization to understand these questions and more through a combination of measurement reporting as well as qualitative and quantitative methodologies (such as focus groups and surveys).
A Day in the Life…
This internship will provide an opportunity to join the team at ABC News Consumer Insights that represents the ABC News audience and explores the attitudes and behaviors that contribute to news viewership across platforms. In this unique role, you will split your time between supporting Measurement & Primary Research to understand both reporting on viewership of ABC News programs as well as answering specific questions about the audience.

A love of news, an interest in research, a curiosity about consumer behavior, and an understanding of our current ABC News properties and programs is a plus.
A day on the job may include:
- Assisting the Senior Managers on projects specific to ABC News programs and properties
- Aiding in both the quantitative and qualitative phases of research – survey and focus group development, data analysis, report making, and presentations to stakeholders
- Monitoring several sources of syndicated research and synthesizing into digestible reports for ABC News stakeholders
- Cultivating insights on different audience groups, such as Gen Z and our diverse audiences, to inform audience growth strategies
- Helping to create a set of templates to aid in data visualization and presentations
- Assisting in creating ratings reports & analysis on a regular basis
- Scheduling presentations and assisting in meeting set-ups
What we are looking for…
- A strong passion for understanding the motivations and behaviors related to news viewership
- Experience creating aesthetically pleasing PowerPoint documents, emails, and Word documents (Would love to see examples)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Basic knowledge in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong time management and organization skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare analyses under time sensitive deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year (or recently graduated within the past 6 months) in an analytical field, preferably in news and/or media
- Familiarity with Tableau, SPSS, or similar data visualization/analysis tools
- Previous experience (academic or internship) in news and/or media or an analytical field
Required Education
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last 6 months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program
Additional Details
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
- Must possess unrestricted work authorization
Work Environment
- This internship is a hybrid position –Based in New York City or Los Angeles, CA. Must be able to provide own housing and reliable transportation for work.
- Must have a working, reliable internet connection, as well as a quiet and dedicated workspace
- Program length — All candidates must be available from January 2023 through early June 2023
- Work details — Must be able to work FULL-TIME hours (approximately 40 per week), Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm EST for the duration of the internship
