We’re looking for a Research Data Science Manager who expects more from their career. It’s a chance to manage and lead a team of Research Data Scientists and work closely with Product & Engineering teams through the solution lifecycle (inception to production). Joining our advanced data science team, you’ll work with Data Scientists and Engineers who apply apply machine learning techniques and algorithms to create dunnhumby science solutions that can be delivered across our clients and engineered into science modules.You will work alongside super-smart colleagues challenging and rewriting the rules, not just following them.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the creation of new solutions that can be captured as science modules and applied across clients, and articulate how these solutions can distil complex problems into compelling insights that resonate with clients.
Research the latest machine learning approaches, and share the knowledge across the team.
Ensure clear and effective communication across the team and build strong relationships within the team and with internal stakeholders, to ensure full understanding of product requirements.
Gather input and requirements from Capability teams and define the innovation strategy and roadmap for the team.
Develop mathematical models for business problems to enable statistical and machine learning techniques to be applied
Hire, mentor and retain a strong team of research data scientists who live the dunnhumby values.
Manage and allocate resources and people to maximise productivity and deliver measurable and timely results and ensure smooth running of your team and area.
Develop the skills and experience of machine learning and programming techniques of your team members, to maximise the value that they can deliver.
Ensure team are following Quality Assurance processes, ways of working and coding standards.
Lead projects with outside partners & collaborate with wider industry experts and institutions to research and/or test new Data Science opportunities for dunnhumby.
Manage risk effectively, provide visible and consistent leadership on Values and Code of Business Conduct and act where you see issues. Protect our team by ensuring they have the skills and training needed including completing SLS.
What we expect from you
- 10+ years of prior experience in building Data science solutions
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Applied Statistics, Physics, Engineering or related field.
- Working closely with Product & Engineering teams through the solution lifecycle (inception to production)
- Experience of a wide range of machine learning techniques including regularised regression, clustering and tree-based ensembles, and ability to implement them through libraries.
- Experience with open source machine learning packages, such as Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow.
- Experience with handling large data volumes with modern data processing tools, e.g. by using Hadoop / Spark / SQL / Python.
- Desirable experience in building and scaling personalization products and solutions
- Desirable prior people management experience of managing a team of 5+ Data scientists
- Ideal candidate should be willing to roll up their sleeves and code as needed but definitely needs to have a technical mindset to further our solutions in the cutting edge data science space
