Job Description:
Basic Functions And Responsibilities
The Data Engineer contributes to multi p le components of the NAEP Process Data creation, processing and analysis. This position will require that the incumbent work closely with guidance from their manager and a cross-functional team at ETS (including assessment development, psychometrics, data engineering, data analysis, and reporting teams) to improve the value of the insights the team gains from the data collected for the client and the interested public.
The incumbent will have a direct role in the teams efforts from data processing and analysis of process data/data products through the implementation and maintenance of new and existing infrastructure . The incumbent will be expected to contribute significantly to data processing , analysis , and architectural design efforts in varying capacities . The incumbent will be expected to contribute to data analysis effort, by analyz ing data, interpret ing trends and patterns, and contributing meaningfully to the team s capability to efficien tly visualize data. The incumbent will be expected to contribute to the architectural work by implement ing and maintain ing the architecture and codebase to support these activities . The incumbent will be expected to contribute significantly to efforts to maintain the teams codebase for data processing, analysis or architecture as assigned .
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate and understand business/team needs and objectives and interpret them into data collection, analysis, or cloud architecture and data processing design and development efforts
Work collaboratively with teams to develop instruments and protocols for data collection efforts specific to research questions or operational needs
Oversee the facilitation of data collection efforts to ensure teams receive the amount of data required to answer research questions or oversee data processing, packaging, and delivery efforts to support operational program needs and client requests
Work with datasets to organize (e.g ., creation of required variables) and prepare for analysis for prescriptive and predictive models or work with datasets to extract features, and conduct maintenance or implement new designs to ensure that architecture efficiently handles the requisite extraction, storage and packaging of low or high-level features
Combine information from various sources to create a comprehensive database or to address operational needs
Develop algorithms and prototypes aligned to project, initiative, or operational program needs
Conduct complex data analyses to answer research questions develop and maintain the architecture and codebase supporting the teams activities
Collaborate with teams to interpret findings and create insights that are applicable to business or operational program objectives
Demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills
Work effectively within the agile framework
Participate in development opportunities as available
Required Experience:
EDUCATION
A Bachelors degree with Experience in Programming
Experience
At least three years of experience as a data engineer or similar role
Strong coding skills in Python
Experience working with Amazon Web Services (analytics, compute, containers, maintenance & governance and storage)
Preferred
Experience working with Github or Dockerhub , strongly preferred
Expertise in data collection, cleaning, and organization
Great organizational and analytic skills
Experience With Proficiency With SQL Preferred
Technical experience with building data models and data mining is a bonus
