The Data Delivery team exists to provide a structured and consistent platform for gathering business requirements for industry set-up in Euromonitor s internal and client-facing systems, translating these into technical specifications to configure our software and websites accordingly, and ensuring that all internal systems we need to enable that work smoothly and are supported well.
The Data Testing and Support team helps to ensure smooth running of ongoing industry updates and new industry development, which are relied on by key stakeholders and end users throughout the company to deliver solutions that meet their needs and expectations. Data Testing and Support Analysts are expected to have excellent communication skills and organizational skills, have the ability to understand both business data requirements and calculation needs, and understand how these translate these into project specifications. They need to be able to test that data set-up meets business requirements and need to be able to use that knowledge to investigate data issues reported by end users.
The Data Testing and Support Analyst may be expected to work across a range of bespoke Euromonitor applications and websites, but the primary focus is on our bespoke software for market research data capture – EMMA. They will collaborate with Technical Business Analysts, Database Developers, end users of EMMA, and other key stakeholders at all levels across the company.
Overview
For all syndicated industry research projects, the Data Delivery team need to build project specifications for the set-up in EMMA, or other internal tools, and test them thoroughly. This work is integral to our ability to publish strong data on Passport to schedule. The overall objectives for the team are to ensure the smooth passage of syndicated research projects from inception to publication, ensuring that the end product reflects research and commercial objectives, specifically:
- Making sure that research and industry teams have, at every stage of the project, the tools that they need, and that they know how to use them.
- Support research and industry teams in every stage of the project with resolution of issues related to error in project setup or insufficient testing of research tool (in collaboration with database developers, passport team or other teams as applicable)
- Think through all the ways in which the data can go wrong and ensure that we create the necessary tools to check for those issues and ensure that these checks are thoroughly documented and explained to end users.
- Engage with end users to ensure we provide them with tools that are adequate to project needs and allow them to make all necessary data checks in order to deliver a robust product to clients.
- Create some internal tools in Excel/other relevant application, or work with database developers to get them created.
- Co-ordinate publications and reloads, ensuring that necessary checks have been completed.
Key responsibilities
Project testing
- Testing, through front and back end checks, that set-ups for new projects in EMMA or other research systems are robust and 100% correct.
- Ensure that these work for both in-house and in-country users.
- Ensure that any associated research tools such as Access databases that are meant to interact with the EMMA set-up do so correctly and that the project as a whole works as it is intended to work.
- Thorough testing of end product to ensure the final research project works as intended
- Contributing to the testing process to improve it through continuous innovation, to ensure that we never let errors in one project recur in others.
- Getting fully to grips with each project spec to ensure that you are able to explain research requirements to an analyst who does not understand them.
Support
- Provide second-line support on the EMMA application. The main types of support cases would be investigating problems that are not known issues, using knowledge of the data model gained through project testing to understand what to investigate and how to do so.
- As necessary, going back to end users with a solution you have worked out, or referring to other teams as necessary:
- Build and maintain documentation for end users, or identify key stakeholders who can do this, to ensure that all users, internal or external, have the information they need to use the systems we provide.
- Write clear acceptance criteria on requirements and test resulting work to ensure that products and projects meet requirements.
- Successfully engage in multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously.
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders and end users. Depending on projects, this may mean internal colleagues or external clients.
- Sometimes liaise with clients, either remotely or in person, to assist them in understanding how to work with our data effectively.
