About The Opportunity
Department Description
The Investment Research Support department is based out of two locations – Gurgaon, India and Dalian, China. The department provides research support (building financial models, maintaining industry databases and conducting industry and company analysis) to all FIL equity, credit and strategy selection analysts, as well as select portfolio managers. This allows analyst teams to cover a higher number of stocks/credits/funds, respond faster to corporate developments, dig deeper into investment issues, and manage coverage gaps. Additionally, the team has data intelligence capabilities that have allowed FIL Research to build proprietary data series, add an analysis layer over Research IT tools, and do custom quant work for analysts and PMs. The team is also looked upon as a talent nursery for sourcing future Fidelity analysts.
Role And Responsibilities
The role is centred around providing analysis of market data, trends, and signals from the Augmented Research Centre/ARC (FIL’s internal platform to collate non-fundamental research) and support ARC Investment Directors (IDs) to highlight such insights to FIL Portfolio Managers (PMs). The successful candidate is expected to build competence around generating ARC signals independently over time. The primary objective of this analysis is to strengthen the core investment process by including novel and independent sources of alpha.
ARC surfaces signals originating from a broad spectrum of sources and disciplines such as Technical Analysis, Behavioural Finance, ESG ratings, social listening and sentiments, web-scraping, app analytics, cross-asset signals, insider transactions and insights from primary research surveys.
Specifically, The Role Translates To The Following Responsibilities
- Create and deliver stock screens based on non-fundamental factors either independently or with fundamental data to add depth and conviction to the investment process.
- Provide support to ARC IDs in engaging with Analysts and PMs by analysing, shortlisting and highlighting the strongest ARC signals
- Support ARC ID & Technical Analysts in analysing stocks (using Technical analysis) on benchmark-relative and absolute-price basis
- Continued monitoring of highlighted nudges and maintenance of signals database for back-testing of signal performance
- Collate, compile, mine and present a broad range of data for internal purposes, primarily focussed on investment management process inputs. Create effective charts, presentation, and visualizations for the same.
Experience And Qualifications Required
- 2-5 years of experience in financial markets research or trading oriented roles
- Postgraduate/graduate in Finance/accounting/engineering/statistics/economics or any other quantitative field
- Investments oriented mindset with prior experience in conducting Technical Analysis (preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of Excel & PowerPoint and familiarity with other MS Office tools
- Introductory automation and programming skills in VBA or Python (or any other language) is a must, with a willingness to learn further
- Must possess excellent presentation and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualities
- Basic understanding of equity valuation and fundamentals
- One or more levels of CFA, CMT, CFTe, certifications will be desirable
- Familiarity with financial data sources such as Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg, FactSet. Experience in working on the Technical analysis interface of these databases will be a plus
- Interest in and commitment to learning programming and data analysis skills, as per the evolving needs of the role
