The U.S. EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality, through the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) program, is responsible for grants and rebates to reduce pollution from diesel engines across the country through engine retrofits, vehicle and engine replacements, and other projects. Even with EPA’s more stringent heavy-duty highway and nonroad engine standards being implemented, millions of diesel engines already in use continue to emit large amounts of nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and air toxics. These emissions contribute to serious public health problems.

This entry level analyst position focuses on reviewing, collecting, and entering into EPA’s Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) program DRIVER database, a pre-specified list of data values from submitted applications, reports, and finalized work plans for DERA funding programs. The analyst will also use EPAs online Diesel Emissions Quantifier (DEQ) to calculate emission reductions from DERA projects and upload those results into DRIVER. The information collected will meet EPAs reporting and program analysis needs and better inform the DERA program to improve funding opportunities, data collection, and support environmental justice by prioritizing emissions reductions in areas receiving disproportionate impacts from diesel fleets.
