Job Location: Warren, MI
The Data Protection Engineer will:
- Act as a knowledgeable interface between the Storage Operations team and Storage Innovation, Storage Architects, Project Mangers, and customer application teams.
- You will play a key role in managing production environment, user documentation, technical enhancements and keeping our data secure and safe.
- Review opportunities for automation and continually tuning the environment to perform efficiently.
- You will need to be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures and will plan, direct and coordinate activities pertaining to Data Protection best practices affecting information technology in GM’s vast environment.

Principle duties and Responsibilities will include:
- Client Server Backup and Recovery
- Configuration and management of Networker, Data Domain, Server administration: Windows, Linux, Unix
- Support the ITIL Operational model: Incident, Problem, Release, Change, Configuration Management activities
- You will be skilled at prioritising tasks and reviewing capacity and performance data, predicting trends and potential issues.
- Embrace mentorship and training of fellow engineers
We’re looking for someone who has:
- 7 years’ proven experience DELL EMC and other Data Protection products
- Bachelor’s degree in IT related field and or equivalent work experience
- Strong team player, strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills required
- Ability to work in a very large and fast-paced environment
- Goal oriented with high standards for quality and performance
- Experience with DELL EMC Networker, vProxy and Data Domain products along with other vendor Data Protection products
- DPA Installation and Administration
- Cloning for Disaster Recovery
- Unix/Linux shell scripting, Windows Power Shell scripting
- Knowledge of Industry standard methodologies relating to complex backup environments.
- Automation process delivery

- Python Coding experience
- Block, File or Object Storage Technologies
- This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.
